First recurve

I知 planning to get my first bow and need some help to get the right one.
Right now I知 looking for a recurve without sight or stabs. Is it best to spend the money on the limbs, riser or both within the same total budget (₤150-200)?

I'm just a newbie, Hubert, so probably not the best to give advice. But I was told to keep it simple because I'd grow out of my setup in time. As money was a big factor for me, I went for something really basic (PSE Buckeye) so I could focus on my technique and spend more money once I figured out if my skills are deserve better equipment.

I know there are some gung-ho archers out there who jump right into the best equipment, but I'm not one of them. You're going to hear something different from everyone you ask. You need to do what feels right for you.

Good luck!

Hi Hubert - I agree with Clickie - you will probably outgrow a basic training bow bought new within your available funds, but it is well worth considering second hand given your budget. Unless you are afflicted with the left hand gene (like I am) there is a lot of choice on eBay and more likely at your local dealer. I started off with a venerable Yamaha Alpha EX which came with all the accessories for about 」150 on eBay (it still is a very good bow, although the 20 year old wood/glass limbs stacked a bit). Good hunting!

*Well, not really. I'm just so left-eye dominant and have an old right shoulder dislocation that I have to shoot that way!

When I started 3 months ago I was told to get the best riser with International limb fittings I could afford and get budget limbs so that you can work up in poundage as your ability and form developed. When you reach your final weight then get a nice expensive set !!

Started at 28lb now at 38lb.

I would say that it worth getting a resonable quality set of budget limbs as some I found can give very variable performance.

Phil

Definitely - a riser which will take international fitting limbs. Otherwise you will not be able to change limbs as your draw weight increases without changing the whole bow.

Bearing in mind that the weight you are able to draw will increase quite rapidly, don't spend too much on your first set of limbs - you will outgrow them quite quickly.

There are many bows that would fit your budget available here in UK; but if I remember correctly, you are in Falun, Sweden? So it's difficult to know what is available on the swedish market, and at what price. But as a starting point if I was buying new in the UK with your budget, I would have a look at a Samick Agulla riser and Samick Universal limbs.

If prices in Sweden are markedly higher than in UK you might find it advantageous to order by mail from a UK supplier; there are several who have good websites and you can 'shop around' on the net quite successfully.

I think that whichever bow you buy, you will need at least a longrod to go with it.

The solution of a reasonable riser and budget or second use limbs to start is a good strategy. You can get used to a riser and grip, how they feel and react, and gradually increase both the quality and pull of the limbs.

A new Sebastion Flute Riser is top notch at 」150 and WW KAP Evo 2 limbs are about 」50

An alternative lower cost riser is the Samick Agulla or WW Winstar (under different names).

As you progress SF Carbon limbs are 」169 and good performers.

Just starting out and I was looking at this fram altservices.co.uk, along with some Samick Universal Glass Limbs - does this sound like a reasonable combination for a beginner?

afterthought - well some could, but I was more than content!
