Long limbs better?

Seriously though - I shot better with my "temporary" 70" Winex limbs than I have with my 68" limbs... apart from the long limbs feeling better (due to less finger pinch presumably) has anyone else tried going up a length and found the grouping better?

Well you know my answer. I should be on 68 my arrows are only 28 1/2 cos of my helix handle but i tried 70 and much prefer the feel. I pull 48lb so speed is not a huge factor although with tugsten x10's i suffer at long range

I have an old early 70's target bow. 75" (yes seventy five inch) with a 13" brace height to back of riser. It is quite weird to shoot, needless to say finger pinch is negligible.

Longer limbs tend to be more stable and forgiving than the shorter varients of the same limbs, but have a slower cast. For archers with a longer drawlength (about 29") this dosn't matter as much because they are getting the benfits of a smoother, more stable limb and are getting the extra poundage to help combat the slower casting speed.

This is the main reason that i've shot long limbs ever since i finished my beginners course... and also because i get finger pinching on shorter limbs.. cause i have reasonable fat fingers

Having shot 68" limbs for years (28" draw length) I switched to 70" limbs when I upgraded because they were available (and also a bit of a bargain). It's not really a fair comparison as my old limbs were 38lb Gold Medalist Wood/Glass and the new limbs are 44lb Synerzy but I'm shooting better than I did with the old limbs and they 'feel' much better at full draw. When I upgrade the limbs (not for a while I hope) I'll seriously consider long limbs over medium again.

Nice picture, Murray. It reminds me of a young lady shooting Longbow at the Nationals at Lilleshall in 2006. Shooting with an adult sized bow on the Bristol 4 (Girls Under 13) line, ground clearance was definitely a problem. Didn't stop her shooting very well indeed, though.

Well to actually answer the question.. I shot better scores with my 69" KG1 than I have since I bought my 68" Exfeel and that's with pretty much the same poundage on the fingers. Could be other factors involved though...

Definitely felt the benefit when I went from a 69in KG1 to a 70in PSE/Border combination. I haven't shot a 71in or 72in bow, but I don't have any problems with stacking now my draw is over 32" and so I don't feel the need to change.

I've gone from 68 to 70 on a draw lenght of 31.5" and it feels much better. It even shot better until I dedcided that I needed to change my stabs

I changed up my 68" for 66" a long time ago.

Longer limbs may feel nicer, but it's more important that they are appropriate for your draw length. If you don't fall into the right spot of the draw curve, you aren't using the limbs at their most efficient.

If you are using limbs that are too long you are missing out on the huge advantage that comes with shooting lighter poundage for the same speed with less body contact issues.
