| Speed comparisons are essentially meaningless unless the set ups are correctly tuned, so just swapping in a pair of limbs isn't a fair comparison. Also, "feeling stiffer" doesn't give a limb extra speed compared to one that feels smoother. In fact, if you look at the draw force curve of limbs that are smoother at full draw (Border, W&W Winex etc.) you will find they actually store more energy. Of course, whether all that energy is delivered efficiently depends on other factors, such as the set up/tune.
In the top limbs, you see variations in price, small variations in speed, variations in stability (some quite major - look at the FX) and build/material quality. Probably the most important factors are:
1. Feel - whether the individual likes the feel of the limb.
2. Brand - whether the individual likes the top archers who shoot the limb, or thinks the advertising is pretty, or has some other rationale for "believing" in the limb. |
