Helix or Nexus? Any recommendations?

Hi,
Has anyone tried both the Nexus and Helix? I wanted to replace my GM. been drooling over the Hoyt Matrix 3 years ago but since I was just a beginner I didn't want to get too antsy and buy 2 bows unless I'm sure I'd stick with archery long enough for the investment. After my hiatus, I think I'm ready for a new bow. GM doesn't have the handle bar so I don't have an idea if there's going to be any impact on my shooting if I buy Helix since it has one. Its top of the line at Hoyt currently but I still can't get over the matrix look that I see on Nexus.

Okay, why Nexus or Helix??? Errr.. I started with Hoyt and let's say I'm a little narrow-minded in that sense.

And has anyone heard if any new recurve risers are coming out of Hoyt in the next couple of months or so?

It's really down to weight and feel. I love the Helix. I have a friend who prefers the Nexus. Both great bows.

Sorry mate! I m not able to answer your question. Coz most of my clubmate are right handed. They do have Nexus but the problem is that. I m a lefty! Therefore, I had never got a chance to try their Nexus. I guess I m gonna buy one later!
Anyway, I just wanna tell you that. You are not alone and I m also narrow minded!

If you liked the look of the matrix then you can pick them up new for under £200 now, thats what i did! If you definitly want Helix/Nexus then just get out and try them out at the shop before you buy.

Hi Pmiddl,
You're absolutely right! I would love to have the option to go a shop to try them out. However, I reside in Manila and there's only one archery shop here, not much variety, and sadly they usually have W&W and Samick for recurve. I get my gear usually when I travel. This time, my husband is the one travelling so I've asked him to buy for me. I just couldn't decide at this point if I stick to the no-handle bar style or go try a different style. Not sure what the difference is in terms of the shot feel for either styles.

Very difficult one.

I shoot a Helix, and IMO it is the best recurve riser availalble at the moment, but that is my personal opinion.
Other's like the Nexus (Whenever I see it, I always think there's a bit missing, the top is too "narrow" for my aesthetics.)

The Helix is heavier than the Nexus, and because of the TEC bar, you may been an extra weight on your stabiliser side rod to compensate for the offset weight.

The main differences really is that I find the Helix nicer to shoot at my bow poundage (51#) and that I find the after shot reaction nicer, if you I could describe the difference, I would say the Nexus is "spongier" after the shot.

Although, that probably doesn't help much, Kae.

You can have my Nexus :P I'm LH too

Been shooting for about 3 months with the Nexus... Might be my low poundage 32 68 at 29...

You made me realize I know nothing about my bow

Helix or Nexus

Try both. Its not always the most expensive that shoots best. Most important is to find one that suits your expectations of the shot.

WRT Hoyt or other makes, If you have faith in Hoyt, go with it. If you don't trust your equipment you will never achieve your potential.

Most bows are capable of shooting more accurately than the archer will ever be able to shoot them.
