| What's in a riser? When you choose a riser, what do you look for? I like: Strength (includes plausibility of advert) Proven reliability Style Colour

| Before I try a riser, I look at the mass weight, balance, and the simplicity/solidity of the limb adjustment/bolt system. If that's okay, I then try it. Right then, the only thing I look for is feel. |

| *Sigh* I wonder if I'll ever get to the level where I can choose by 'feel'. Right now, design is all that is for me. |

| the way the bow reacts on the shot. how it feels in the hand cost I'd like to think that styling, colour & brand were unimportant.

| Mass - I don't like light risers. Age - I don't care how fantastic it is, I'm not buying a 15 year old Radian because it's overdue a snap. Gimmickiness - bit variable. I like the look of gimmicky stuff and always want to try it (W&W Expert w/ carbon bridge, Helix with weird grip) but rarely am willing to PAY for one. I tend to buy solid, proven stuff... hence also why I've not bought a W&W Infinite despite them looking immensely cool. Ability to easily take a Hoyt grip is fairly important to me. Not being ugly - while the Samick Masters isn't unpleasant to shoot, it looks like a cheesegrater. Won't have one, thanks. Really, I want a heavy riser that looks good. Grips and feel and reaction I can change, but those two characteristics are set by the manufacturer and I can't change them.

| Average mass - not too heavy and not too light, especially Fibrebow light, it felt like I was going to break it. Bow reaction - I like a punchy shot which was best offered by the Matrix when I bought it, although the Helix is meant to offer a similar reaction Looks - I won't shoot something that I think is ugly. I know this is a very vain approach but if I don't feel comfortable with my equipment than I won't shoot it well, hence the reason why I'd never buy a Guardian (or indeed, most Bowtechs). |
