Axis FMJ

Do you think it is worth me buying bare shaft Axis FMJ's and building my own? MAC sell them for a bargain price of £57! with...

Internal-fit "X" Nock Installed
* HIT Insert, chamfer stone, installation tool, HIT epoxy Included
* Points and broadhead adapter rings Sold separately

I already shoot with axis (brought ready made) but would like to get some new ones due to clattering a few indoors recently.

Do you think it is worth while buying wraps for them if i do? and I quite fancy kurly vanes (just to try them out) but I am concerned about clearance problems with my trophy taker rest, will they be ok?

Also, as I have no idea what point weight would be the right one to go for...I shoot 29.5" 57lbs. I currently shoot 400 spine, but are they "ok" - they shoot well and group well currently but just wondering if they are actually appropriate?

I bought mine as separate components and made them up. It is quite a nice job to do. Be prepared for epoxy overspill, just in case. Nothing worse than having nothing handy to clean things, should it happen. Enjoy.

Thanks geoff. Do you think it is worthwhile using wraps and kurly vanes? Or best to stick to the rigid 'traditional' fletching, do they make a difference on compound. I've never tried them...just fancy trying something new.

I bought mine as separates as well. Very easy to build.

I also bought different point weights from Bowsport to try, they are cheap enough. I recently got some Beiter nocks from a shop and these seem to be better that the standard X nocks.

I shoot 400's with a Trophy Taker 1 rest and use X-Vanes. No problems with these at all, good clearance and the vanes never come off.

You should have a go at making them up yourself and if you feel really adventurous buy some FOB's and try them as they work great with Axis FMJ's

I use 125gn points, but have also got 90gn & 60gn points. The arrows fly very well with all of them.

Yes, they're good arrows.

I got mine from MAC and built them up with 2 1/4" Bohning X-vanes and 125 grain screw-in points. They fly well indoors from my indoor recurve (35lb fingers, Axis FMJ 500's 29" arrow length).

Outdoors from a compound I believe Marcus uses the 1 1/2" Bohning X-vane which group well for him.

I don't think you need wraps unless you particularly want too, they're very resilient, I haven't damaged a single one (says he tempting fate!) so far this indoor season.

My experience is check them for straightness regulary I have eight left out of 12.

two of the eight have evidence of dents but still feel straight on a spin test & rolling on a flat surface test & still group.

I guess they have survived impacts ACC's et al may have sucumbed too.
