| More String Questions I'm thinking of starting to make my own strings, but there seems to be one bit of information missing from most guides; what diameter serving to use with how many strands of bowstring to fit a certain nock. Anyone have a table or similar? Ultimately I'm after what size serving to use with a 16 strand 8125 to fit a Beiter 12/2, and what size to fit a 12/1. Any suggestion appreciated. |

| If you are intending to use beiter nocks-- for 40pence more -why not install the beiter nock points too? A perfect fit-or near perfect as there could be!..and will be, in any temperature or change of conditions Otherwise, I too would like to see a table of serving sizes to strands etc- but I don't think there is one. It's all trial and error. I would suggest using a High quality center serving material with good resistent and waterproof properties in as low a diameter as your finger hook requires for comfort and consistency. Should you intend to use nock points other than Bieter, then you can always 'build up' the gap with floss (or other) for your required nock fit. |

| I have no experience of the beiter knock you refer to as I use easton pin knocks. For these I use 20 strands of BCY452X and 0.018 diamondback. But in my experience the tension you serve at has a pretty big influence on the final diameter of the serving and its likely to come down to trial and error. I would suggest get a few different diameter serving materials and serve a small section with each and test the knock fit rather than serve the whole thing then have to start again. An innexpensive way to experiment would be to make up some 8" "strings" and serve the centre with 2" of serving and try different knocks on them. That way it won't cost too much in time or money and you can keep the experiments for future reference.

| That 8" string idea would make a good test bed for different sized nocks. |

| I've seen a method which can make a small adjustment to nock fit. When you start the centre serving, keep the loose end of the serving very long before starting to wind over the end to lock it in. Before you get to a point where you would trim the end, try a nock on the serving. If it is too tight trim the end and continue the serving, if it is a good fit don't trim the end and keep the loose end under the serving for the entire length. I haven't had to use it myself only seen a demo of this method, so I hope it makes sense.
