Question x vane quality control?

after recommendations on aiuk thought i would give some x vanes a try.

shot them tonight @60 yds and 80 in light wind and then no wind at all and i have to say they do group slightly better, particulary in wind, than the standard shape vane. sight mark was virtually unchanged.

what may be a problem though is i immediately noticed a difference in size (profile height), and upon closer inspection found about half to be bigger than the rest. higher by about 1mm. so i separated them and fletched with just the bigger set.

other vanes have always been matched the same. Has anyone else had this, or did i get a duff batch?

plus if i mixed the smaller with larger would this b detrimental to arrow flight/grouping?

I've had 2 x bags of 1000 and not noticed any differences.

I personally wouldn't put different sizes on (or colour) as the density will differ... although the best way to find out is to shoot them

Have you tried contacting Bohning about these vanes? They may be able to do something/explain why.

I personally don't have any problems like this with mine.

I think you must have, did they come in a sealed package?

I've got hundreds of 1 1/2" and 2 1/4" and they're all identical.

I bought some 1.5" Shield Cut X-Vanes from Aard a while ago but haven't yet used them, so upon reading this thread I got curious and dug them out.

I have green and orange vanes. At quick glance the green ones all appear to be the same (I haven't checked the orange ones yet). Lining them up, the majority of them are identical in shape and size, BUT one or two are definitely smaller in height (length is the same).

The height difference appears to be up to 1mm (some are less than this). If I can get the macro on the camera setup properly I'll take some shots to illustrate this.

Different batches? Could be. They weren't in factory sealed packs (nor would I have expected them to be), but I am a wee bit surprised by it. Had this thread not appeared I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

I haven't noticed this problem with my EP vanes, but I'll be having a look at them tomorrow to see if the same variation exists.
