Choosing arrows for lanky archers?

Hey Guys,

I've started coaching my school squad since the start of this year and I've started a school advanced development squad for the guys that have been really good. All recurve

One of the guys, He's shooting about 26lb on fingers and 1916 Jazz in factory length, 31", total arrow= 31.5". That IMO is too short for him as when we tried to get him into alignment the arrow falls off the rest and his bow arm shoulder is still high too so... I'm thinking we'll need at least a 33" arrow to get all that sorted. His bow arm is not over-extended but not really relaxed, the elblow face is vertically parallel with the string.

But... Does anyone have any suggestions for a spine and a model of an arrow that'd make up a 32.5"-33" arrow and still be able to shoot off a 26lb bow?

Jay

I'm a long arrow buyer and the only choice I can think of, that doesn't cost three arms and two legs, would be the GoldTip Ultralight Entrada 600. Several years ago when I tried GTs the raw shaft length was something like 32.5".

I faced a simialr problem with my eldest lad who is 6'3" but as a beginner was drawing under 30lbs. The issues I gues you have is because they are arrows for lessons, you don't want to spend a fortune, but at the same time, due to potential low draw weight the spine needs to be fairly weak which adds up to short arrows!

If it is for a begginner chose arrows that are too long even if that means shafts that are too stiff, you don't want the archer to overdraw.

In terms of arrow choice you could look at easton Eclipses full length and spines can be found at the following link:

Archery Shop & Archery Products from Alternative Sporting Services

If you dont mind shooting all carbons (I could understand why with beginners) you will get carbon impacts up to 33" long from Merlin and they are on offer at the moment and a great arrow. Try this link:

Merlin Archery; Carbon Impact Ultra Fast - YELLOW - Shaft Only

If I can think of any other options I will let you know.

Not sure if they are still made, but according to an old JVD catalogue (2001-2002) the Easton Kyudo arrows were available up to 40" in either 1913 or 2015 so may be worth trying to find a set.
