Seriously, no. Placebos work on real diseases too. Rather better than big pharma would like.

Which implies there is no "science" in psychology? The effect of placebos, well documented, must be psychological (and hence whatever they are treating is, at least in part, psychosomatic). But, because of the (equally well documented) reluctance of scientists to cross self-imposed boundaries, we are only understanding this very slowly.
(Go on, scientists, flame away).

But they are not claiming psychological benefits*. They are making other claims in that there are "special" effects on the body by wearing these braclets.

And if you believe that, well, I have a range of "special" hats that are guaranteed to improve your scores and general well being. All for £13.99, just PM me for details.

* - of course, saying something will give you psychological benefits but has no actual physical benefits would sort of spoil the psychological benefits!!

Going off topic a little but here goes ................

To be fair to us scientists (at least, any of us who are molecular and cell based scientists) we can only study what we have in hand. We can treat populations of cells with a drug and examine the effect - then we tell the medical based guys what we saw. Its difficult for us to study placebo pharmachologically as the cells and assays we use don't "feel" sick - they just react. The (very useful and true) role of placebos is in the domain of medics and doctors - so any boundries molecular scientists have cannot really slow down the research. We can, however, examine placebos retrospectively - if a placebo is used and has a real effect, we can (and do!) examine the biological implications within the confines of our systems.

The psychosomatic response and the human affect is really not our remit - not really fair to say its us slowing it up

Anywho, its sunny outside ............... wahey! Might get some training in!!!!!

I have never come across these and don't know how long they have been around for but I have a Bioflow, which, if I've read the Trion:z site correctly is pretty much the same thing. The Bioflow is geared towards people with arthritis and joint problems and as far as I know is the original product of this idea, but don't quote me on that!

Bioflow Direct-Bioflow magnetic bracelet-Bioflow bracelet-magnetic bracelet uk-Bioflow magnetic bracelet-magnetic health bracelet

I got mine because I was having problems with my elbow, which from time to time would have a cracking feeling and sound when bending my arm. This bracelet has helped to relieve this.

But whether the effects of it working are physical or psychological I don't know, but which ever it is it works for me.

It is known, and I have know of people that it can have the opposite effect on and make symptoms its was intended to cure, worse.

So it doesn't always suit everyone.

I've been wearing one of the Samick power bands every day without fail for 2 years.

I suffered from a real ache/pain in the 2nd/3rd knuckles of my drawing hand in June of '06 that felt like the onset of arthritis (not that I really know what that is but it was a real problem).

Anyway, since wearing the band I've not had the problem. Like 'lucky' lottery numbers I have to keep wearing it now.

Simon

Hi all,

I didnt really believe in the odd reports that I read over the years about wearing magnets but also didnt look into the subject. Two years ago I was helping my partner with her photography stall at a country fair and the local franchise for Ecoflow's magnotherapy division were setup next to us. The number of people who came upto them during the day singing their praises amazed me. Some had bought similar items from different manufacturers or the same from different franchises. Some just said how good they were and some "upgraded" to stronger magnets and more ornate bracelets etc.

By the end of the day I was pretty well sold on the benefits of magnets. What really helped swing it was the stories of horses and dogs who really suffered from bad joints etc who visually benefited from magnotherapy. Animals dont know about placebo's.

Apparently the use of magnets on aches and pains came about as a "side effect" of their sales of the Ecoflow fule saving device. One of the reps always had a Ecoflow fuel saver on his person and he suffered from an ache somewhere. He found that the pain was easing and felt a lot better and on changing jobs and not have the magnetic fuel saver on his person the pain came back. Hence more testing on the health benefits.
