Beginners Kit

Hi All

I am coming to the end of my beginners course soon (2nd last this coming Tuesday) and looking to buy some kit. I have decided on the following:
Evolution 2 Bow £160.00
Jazz Arrows X8 £36.40
Neet T-100-D Quiver £37.95
Summit II Sight £61.45
Fieldlocker T/D Case £32.45
Total £328.25. Therefor looking at a £400 budget.

Any thoughts on these items (good/bad) and have I missed anything.

Thanks

Tom

Platinums will last longer, and I don't think the Evo is international fit. Else it's not a bad setup. On £400 you can consider most of the package deals offered by Custom Built, Aardvark and the like. Where are you and where is your nearest shop?

The Evo 2 does have international fit limbs but remember the riser is 23" long.
Agree re arrows XX75 platinums are worth the extra few quid more durable and easier to straighten. Around this price range also look at the Winstar 2 with Challenger limbs. The Winstar 2 has adjustable limb pockets for both limb allignment and poundage and the challenger limbs are better and faster than the evo 2 limbs.

Thanks for your replies. I live South Birmingham/Warwickshire area and I’m not sure where my nearest shop is. Just looked up the two shops on the web and the package deals looks very good. I will have to visit each one, and try different bows if they will allow me.

I am very new to archery so I can't really offer any sensible advice. However, yours is the second post about beginners equipment where a £60 - £80 sight has been mentioned. Provided that the chosen sight has a good range of adjustment, I can't see any point in spending this sort of money at an early stage and would have thought that £40 of it might be better put towards the arrows or riser. I haven't seen any of the more experienced people commenting on this so maybe I have it wrong - any thoughts?

ps I have a second hand Cartel which seems to be much better than my shooting

Welcome to archery!

I would also recommend skipping the Jazz arrows and getting something better for not a whole lot more money.

Hi TimGriff6

I have been looking through this forum and talked to a few members at the club and the cheap sights are not recommended. All of my equipment list is from the ‘Quicks’ catalogue as this is the only information that I had (until the post from Sky high30) and this was a mid range sight.
Are there more suitable sights out there?

Thanks for all of your replies

Tom

I'll second that - XX75s are a whole heap better and the difference in cost is pretty minimal.

Despite all that has been said about cheap (ie cartel) sights on other threads, as a beginners sight they do the job fine. I have had my cartel Q sight for 2 years, and have had no problems with the thing. It cost under 30 quid.

In fact, pretty much my entire setup consists of the cheap stuff (see profile), and that hasn't stopped me getting to first class and beyond with it (shot a bowman score the other weekend ). The only area where the money buys you points almost immediately is arrows - do buy platinums (xx75s) if you can.

Essentially, buy intermediate club level stuff now (like the evo 2 or similar), and upgrade it when you're experienced enough to appreciate the difference and cope with the faster setup carbon/foam limbs and carbon arrows produces.

Finger sling and long rod and a decent platform tab.
