First,

Do you have access to a string jig ?

If yes , great....

You can pick up the materials at any good archery shop.

If no....

Well, you may be a bit stuck

In addition to the string jig (which you could probably make if you have basic woodworking skills – and, of course, the inclination!) then another important item is the string server. This holds the spool of string serving thread and ensures an even tension as it is wound around the string.

I would suggest starting with Dacron, if for no other reason than it costs around ¼ the price of Fastflight and (from personal experience) the first few strings are likely to be pants! : It may be worth talking to people at your club - they may be happy to provide some materials and equipment in exchange for the strings you make (at least, once you get the hang of it!) You nay also be able to get some first-hand guidance.

In the absence of a tame string-making guru, a useful string making reference can be found at http://www.mac.asn.au/string_making.htm

Good luck with the strings. It is very satisfying - especially when someone comments on how well your string is made and asks where you bought it. "Well, actually, I..."

I found Fast Flight easiest to work with, though my first few attempts ended up being junked. The heavy waxing helps to hold it together, but you've then got the hassle of removing the excess wax.

Dacron's a lot thicker, and I still find it quite difficult to work with, though at least it's cheap.

Angel ASB is a nice thickness, but the very low level of wax makes string building trickier than with FF. And ASB is expensive.
