Merlin Max2000 vs Hoyt SierraTec vs Hoyt UltraMag

A friend of mine is thinking on buying a new compound. One archer is selling a used Merlin Max2000, and the other options are the Hoyt SIERRATEC (new) and the Hoyt ULTRAMAG (new).

The price difference between the Merlin and the two Hoyt's are of 175€ and 145€ more expensive (the merlin costs 300 €), respectively. Is the Merlin better than this Hoyt models?

Personally, I don't think it's a matter of the Merlin being better, it's what your comfortable shooting with.

I'd give all three of them a try and see what suits you best.

Having shot two of these bows (the hoyts) I can vouch for them both. Ultramag is a longer axle to axle bow and has carbon limbs, it was my first proper compound bow, it's really good to shoot feels quite nice and can be shot with both fingers and a release, the sierratec is a machined riser (ultramag is cast magnesium alloy) it's much sorter, you would have to use a release aid, it's not got carbon limbs and feels as thought it has a much sharper release. I shoot a razortec now, same size as sierra but with the carbon limbs and locking pockets.

If your freind is new to compounds i would suggest the ultramag (it's easier to draw back for the same weights and easier to hold) Please try them all though if you can.

No. For reasons see my reply to your similar question on Sagi'.

Said as as Merlin Max 2000 user, and not a Hoyt owner.
