Question Chiltern's Phoenix Riser

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew what the bracing range of Chilterns Phoenix is? I've just strung the wife's up and it's got a 9" brace when using a standard 68" bow string without any twists.

Thanks

FT

Hi FT, surely there's a booklet in the box? if not my first point of contact would be Chiltern Archery themselves.

I think the limbs have a stronger influence on bracing height than the riser.

I always thought it was down to the angle of the limb pockets and the twists in the string. The limbs should be pretty much the same as any other. But I could be wrong

Limb profiles vary massively. See here for examples:

Thats incredible I hadn't realised there was such variation!
But even with different profile limbs, a 9.5" brace with no twists is worrying. I even thought that maybe the string was the wrong length so I tried several different ones but the brace was the same.

Even so the problem is with the nominal length of string needed. When my wife got her new Mizar, and we put S3 limbs on it the string we got for a '66"' bow was way too short. Even with only 5 twists it was at the very top of the recommended bracing height range for a mizar. I ordered a new, longer string and they accidentally sent a standard length string for 66" bow which was again too short, and had to be returned to get a longer one which now gives a good bracing height with about 30 turns.
The moral of this little tale is that you just can't trust the 'use this length string on this size bow' tables. You have to find the string length that is right for that particular bow. In your case you need one at least half an inch, and possibly even an inch longer. Once you get it right make sure you keep a record of the length that works best so that you can get new ones the right size in the future and don;'t go back to asking for a 'string for a 68" bow please'.

Have you spoken to Martin at Chiltern yet? I believe the Phoenix does actually have a slightly steeper angle on the limb pocket than most risers. This could be something to do with it.
