which are the best risers? foam core or wood core? would you choose foam over wood or the other way round?

or is it price that decides

In theory, the carbon cores should be more consistently made (since wood is a natural material) and less susceptible to changes caused by temperature and moisture. In practice, any difference is probably too slight for most of us to notice - hard rock maple is a very consistent and stable material. So I'd say pick the limbs that shoot best for you, irrespective of core material.

a lot of spiel has been written about the benefits of foam cores, yet they add little to the performance in terms of speed and stability this is done by the carbon laminates, their thickness and how far appart they are (front and back). I have used both Marksman and border foam variants good limbs, but then I have shot my best scores with wood cored limbs, as for temperature effects, they are minimal on both types,
