Lightbulb Next step... WORLD DOMINATION !!

I didn't hear it myself as I don't have a radio at work to listen to, but I get the feeling that the contributions to the Simon Mayo show by AIUK members went a way to getting archery some well needed publicity.

So - my question is why can't we do something along these lines on a UK wide basis ? Something like an Archery Awareness Weekend or something. A publicity event done by the grass roots people and not something that has to rely on stuffed shirts in offices somewhere who have no interest in the sport, other than it's just one of many on the "list" that they are responsible for.

There are so many clubs, and so many archers that surely we could come up with some sort of stunt between us to capture the attention of the press even if just for a few hours ?

Some sort of archery related guiness world record? 24/48hr shoot? At loads of clubs across the country? That'd be amazing...

Or we could do a calendar, I believe it is traditional in such circumstances. Not that I'd be volunteering to be in front of the camera...

I have tentatively suggested a calendar to some of the chaps I know - They have all run screaming in the other direction declaring camera allergy!!!

However - really like the guiness world record idea. 48 hours continuace shooting by teams at various locations and one hell of a party afterwards !!

As an angler, we have a national "Go fishing week" Our Umbrella body, the NFA, recognised by the sports council, arranges it on national levels. The Environment agency give organised events a dispensation for the Fishing licence. They let the angling press publish a form so that a licensed angler can take a beginner fishing for one day, without a licence.

The Angling clubs run taster sessions for kids and adults. The commercial fisheries do "have a go at fishing and BBQ events", that sort of thing.

We even have a number of Angling groups that collect old and unused fishing tackle to run courses for under privileged kids and set them up. One Police force runs a fishing course for young offenders. Who published a report that the re-offending rate from this course was less than half the national average.

More interesting, is that the NFA, National Federation of Anglers is recognised by the sports council. BUT, it co-operates with the other bodies that exist to promote this week long event.

So on our level, It's like the GNAS saying, "hey, EFAA, NFAS, BLB, BCS", Lets get together for a week, and promote our sport together.

Wake up Phil, that really is a pipe dream

BSAC (British Sub-Aqua Club) have a 'go dive' week, which is probably similar to the angling thing.

all clubs can get promotional materials, encouraged to run have a go sessions etc etc.

re the calendar, it could be done in so many ways!! obvious one is like the 'calendar girls' type - 'tasteful' nudes, but you could also do fantastic shots of people silhouetted against the rising sun, field archers against amazing scenery etc. i'm more inclined not to focus on the archer, but on archery, and where you could be... your surroundings, the look of concentration or the victory gestures - Simon Fairweather holding his bow up when he won the 2000 olympics etc.

just my 2p...

Our University Ladies Rugby team did a calender on the lines of the famous womens institute one. Raised enough to fund a whole season. Even buy the kit they did not have for the shoot.

Now a Clicki calender, how much would that raise.

I start the bid at my immortal soul, for what it is worth.
