| I was actually wondering that myself this morning, and do you have to be a member of a club to shoot at competitions ? Can you be an "independent" so to speak ?

| Yes you can. You see a few people shooting at competitions who are listed as GNAS, rather than a club. I think you would also have to affiliate to your county where you live too, but I am not absolutely sure about that. |

| You can affiliate directly to GNAS. It costs more than doing so through a club, but you also get all the documentation (such as AGM papers) that normally only go to club secretaries.

| No problem being a direct member. Its cost slightly more, and remember you may have to pay visitors fees when shooting at a club.

![]() I came across this many years ago when I wanted to shoot for my club but not affilliate to the county/region, GNAS contacted me and said this was impossible. Direct to GNAS was poss but no representing my club was aloud. To shoot for the club, affiliation would be expected through the region... ![]() Their final line to this was; If you don't join through your region we'll make it awkward.....

According to the "Membership" section on the GNAS website (www.gnas.org) "Membership of the GNAS allows archers to shoot with any member club in the United Kingdom or with clubs affiliated to FITA, the sport's international governing body." "On joining an archery club, new members will be asked to pay an annual subscription, which varies from club to club. The fee will be used to fund any club expenses, and is also used to pay affiliation fees to the County and Regional Associations, together with the principle fee going to the National Governing Body (GNAS). The total outlay is relatively inexpensive compared to many sports. An annual cost of £100.00 for an adult member is about average, with reduced fees for juniors. Sometimes a club will offer a reduction for family membership. " Hope that helps? |
