Shoulder Problems

Hello everybody

I've not been shooting since september last year due to increasing amounts of pain in my right shoulder.

I've seen a couple of consutants who, after an MRI scan, diagnosed an acromial clavicular joint arthrosis [Basically my shoulder is worn out]

Well, i got home from hospital this afternoon after an operation to grind off bony spurs from beneath my acromium [sub acromial decrompression] and thr removal of 20mm from the end of my collar bone [distal clavicular excision].

My shoulder hurts like hell and the VERY strong Cocodomol rules out alcohol so no visits to the archrery club and no drink for a while.

I start physio on Tuesday and have been told that I may never shoot right handed again but that left handed should be possible. Life just gets better and better!

I'll keep you all posted.

Cheers for now

Sad news there Keithie, I hope the physio goes well.

On a positive note, many people have had to make the switch from right to left (and vice versa) so shooting again isn't impossible.

Good luck Keep us informed of your progress.

I had to go from left hand shooting to right, following a simmilar problem. As luck has it I recovered after a faily short term (15 months) and now back to "normal". I found it awkward at first but soon got the hang of it. Hang on in there Keithie, I wish you all the good luck in the world, & hope it all turns out right for you in the finnish.

It's not as hard as it seems - well, on a limited trial. Certainly I can get 50yds & hit the target each time on the first outing with underpowered mismatched equipment.

Good luck with the physio (& don't forget to let them know what the ultimate aim is - archery isn't in most peoples minds when they think about shoulders)
