AAS Badges Question

For all the AAS Badge scheme experts.......

I am starting to use the AAS badge scheme at our club and have a few questions

If you are in the Under 9 class and get your white and blue badges, when you go to the Under 12 class are you able to claim the white and blue at this level also or is only the red badge available for you to shoot for.

If you shoot longbow and recurve, could you claim badges for each bow type.

All help appreciated

SVL, go take a look here for info on the AAS.

If I recall correctly, if your 9 year old shoots well enough, when they fall into the next age bracket, and their scores are sufficient then they can claim the badge early.

FWIW, get as many people in your club as possible interested in AAS, as it's beginning to fall apart due to apathy in clubs, and you may find you wont get new badges issued beyond their current stock levels.

My son qualified for his blue and red badges earlier this year, but when we went to the Southern AAS shoot last month the organiser said that the whole scheme *may* not last too much longer.

If they have the scores they can claim up an age group (or two). We had some juniors who were claiming under 18 white and blue badges when they were under 12.

The actual badges are the same whatever the age group so what I do for my juniors is once they have got the white, blue and red, I only claim for the certificate and not the badge, I do check with them first. (Saves the parents some money!)

Likewise we have had some very talented juniors who got their gold badges very early like under 13.

I understand from talking to Mark Davis who is the chairman of the AAS at the moment alough the AAS is being disbanded they are very keen for the badge scheme to keep running, Ken who runs it at the moment is hoping to 'train a sucessor'

I hope it keeps going as is is such a good scheme and attainable for the majority of the juniors, just makes lots of work for the junior rep as they get better!!

SVL,

Personally I would have thought that if the archer obtained white and blue they would be unlikely to want to repeat that at the next age group; and if the progression is correct they will probably be exceeding it by then anyway.

Remember that they can claim above their age group, and if they do so then it is worth "bonus points" in JAWS.

My son claimed both White and Blue at U18 and probably will claim Red at U16 even though he is actually U14, as he shoots both recurve and compound was permittted to mix bow type qualifying scores provided they exceed the minima for each individual submission. I found AAS very quick and very pragmatic wanting to get kids involved rather than jumping through hoops.

Thanks for all the responses, you have helped clarify my thoughts.
Like the idea of just collecting the certificates once you have the badge.
