Time to modernise GNAS rounds

There are several threads on here about GNAS versus FITA rules. This has set me thinking (a slow process)

Imperial scoring 9,7,5,3,1 is far to crude a way of scoring.

Isn't it about time we moved to 10 zone GNAS rounds?

While we are at it replace all GNAS rules with FITA rules...........bingo....no more debates......and no more 3 arrows on, 3 arrows off, 3 arrows on, 3 arrows off. This is supossed to be a serious sport, no the okey cokey

went for 10 zone + FITA rules

bring us in line with the rest of the world - less confusion

im happy to keep the GNAS rounds and yard measurements though for legacy purposes

no real well thought out reasons though - just gut reaction

well I must admit I find the going on and off the line a tad tedious, but I don't have a problem with the 9, 7, 5, 3, 1 scoring (well expect at one shoot, but that's another story ), no problem either with the lack of traffic lights etc etc and I think we're jolly lucky to have such a rich variety of rounds available to us, including all the metric rounds for juniors.

Of course if all your 9's are in the ten ring and your reds are all 8's . . . well you may beg to differ

I agree that it is good that we have a rich variety of rounds, but would be happy with a 10 zone york.

Keep them I say - it adds a variety for those who want to shoot them.. It's the same argument about giving up Lbs and oz, and feet and inches! This is Great Brittain - we're allowed to be idiosyncratic

Leave people the choice! If archers don't want to shoot the imperial rounds then these will simply die out through lack of suport for tournaments. Personally I like the GNAS rounds and am quite happy with the scoring ,but then I shoot longbow so the fine distinction between 10 and 9 (Ha! chance would be a fine thing!) is somewhat lost on me. I suspect that if GNAS moved to do this a movement to shoot them anyway would spring up amongst longbowers at least.

Voted for 10 scoring and Fita Rules. Like the limited time to shoot 6 arrows and shooting 6 at a time.
Just think how long it would take GNAS to recalculate the handicap tables though

Definitely 10+FITA.

I enjoy some of the GNAS rounds, but it's time to move on - after all, the equipment has been allowed to. Perhaps keep GNAS rounds for traditional and perhaps barebow, but go modern with recurve and darkside.

I know people will wheel out the old "we're British", "we invented the sport" and all that rubbish, but let's face it... the whole planet shoots FITA and we're stuck using yet another anachronistic system.

Mr M I couldn't agree more lets keep some of the tradition in archery as we are losing most of the traditional things in the rest of our lives. I am not a Luddite but some of the fundamental things in our social lives begin with tradition and unfortunately they are gradually being lost forever. Thats enough of my ramblings of the day, back to work.
