| British Transplant Games There has been an advert for the above games in Scottish newspapers and the "picture" used is of an archer in silhouette. The caption is "Nina Williams has told jokes since her transplant, some of them funny". The Games are scheduled to take place in Edinburgh between 26th and 29th July. Has anyone else seen it and has it featured in papers in other parts of the U.K.? It looks like archery is getting more publicity, even if it is in an indirect way. BillM

| An archer has had some coaching with us at Eastcote House Archery Centre so that he can enter these games. He normally competes in the javalin and discuss events but wante to try the archery as well this year. The more the merrier.

| That's really good to hear Gwyn and Tony as spurred on by the professional looking archer in the adverts I looked up the archery event and competors get to shoot 2 ends of 3 arrows at 18 metres with equipment that is supplied to them. Even us hardened pros would find that a bit of a challenge - I don't know whether they get some arrows to get their eye in before they compete.I guess the organisers are keeping it simple for organisers and encouraging participation by keeping it minimal to insure the games have some variety, so it is good to hear that folks are taking it seriously and getting some good quality training.

| EUAC hosted the archery event today for the British Transplant Games and it was a great success. A huge thank you to Norrie and Frank for judging and keeping things running smoothly and also to Greg, Dave and the five other EUAC members who prepared bows beforehand and set up the hall. The round was a half portsmouth - 30 arrows in 3 arrow ends at 18 metres with two ends of sighters. EUAC members coached the 15 or so participants who had never shot before for about twenty minutes before the start of the shoot and gave assistance throughout the competition. It was a tiring afternoon especially seeing as most of the 30+ participants had little experience but I think everyone that took part and helped had a very enjoyable experience. Denis |

| Peter Ford of Transplant Sport UK has asked me to post this on his behalf: "The British Transplant Games take place every year. As you have seen, it took place in Edinburgh over the last few days. The games are for people who have had life preserving organ transplants - heart, heart/lung,kidney, liver, bone marrow, bowel etc. There are many athletes who enjoy taking part in the archery event, and come for training prior to taking part in the competition. There have been quite a number in the past who have taken a liking to it and joined a local archery club, bought their own equipment etc. We also have some very able archers in wheelchairs who have taken part in national competitions for the disabled. The competition results will be loaded onto the Transplant Sport UK website over the next few days as soon as they have been put in a format that I can load. I am not sure of the scoring that I will be able to include. Next years event is taking place in Sheffield, and the following year in Coventry. Archery has become a standard event for us over the last few years, and indeed is becoming more popular. Thanks you for your interest, and if any of your members would like to help out with our event next year, we would be delighted to welcome you along. regards Peter Ford Transplant Sport UK - Executive committee Webmaster 2008 LOC - Sheffield"
