| I would suggest a percentage of points dropped is a good measure of improvement if you are talking about indoor rounds (it wouldn't work so well outdoors). For instance say I shoot a 590 and then a 591, I would have improved 10%. Also if I shot 450 and improved to 465. You couldn't use this for comparing compounds and recurves though as the improving to the 10 is harder for compounds but improving to the 9 much easier. I'm sure you could base something around this sort of system. Our cubs shoots are generally handicap based though: FOBB Club Shoots. This would bias archers shooting at a lower level more than my way, as does using a handicap system.

| Tel. Thanks for the award scheme you posted. Reading Archers scheme looks a good one.Watch Man. Will have to look into this Tassel Competiton so thanks for that ![]() I don't mind the same Archer winning over and over again like I said in my first post 'if your good your good'. Unlike some, but i know one archer who spent several years getting to that level and I clap even louder for him because I know what hard work he has put in to win. ![]() Thanks for the Info so far folks, keep it coming |

Apparently there is a six clout badge too, though I have never heard of anyone winning it. Incidentally, to make it clear that I am not an uncaring hard hearted novice hating person (most of the time) my club does have an incentive scheme (200 badges like so many others) that competitors can shoot for until such time as they are good enough to beat me. Finally, WM, I dont think I have ever seen you with a bow in your hand. Do you have awards for best IPOD? |

| Our club have monthly competitions, both indoors and outdoors, all are run using the handicap system. Each month 10 points are awarded to 1st place, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd ..... etc, all the way down to 1 point for 10th place. At the end of the 12 months your best 10 points scored are added together to give a champion. Because the rounds shot each month are different, except during the indoor season when the choice isn't so big, it's rare that one person dominates. It's also difficult for 'the better archers' in the club to win the champions trophy due to their handicap, therefore everyone stands a chance.

| The way I understand it the handicap system is massively biased (not as you would expect - giving a level field) so any club archer has little or no incentive to take part. Personally I'd give it a go, but are any newbies going to be that over the moon with beating the club champ (not me by the way!) when they know that they only had to hit the target to win?

| At our club we run several monthly competitions to encourage and reward all standards of archer to hopefully get them shooting more rounds. First is a monthly handicap on a given Sunday in the month, the winner is the one to gain the greatest improvement on the current HC on the day, for which we give a trophy to keep. Another is as mentioned, badges denoting scores for portsmouth rounds ie 500, 520 etc this is also run during summer for short metric We also have a Victor Ludorum for the archer gaining most points for wins or places at competitions this runs for the whole season. Finally we publish in our newsletter those archers getting PBs or club/county records |
