Converting to the Stick

Hi, My first post on this site, so Hello to all out there. I am converting from shooting a Recurve for the last 7 years to shooting a Longbow. Any advice on bow types or materials would be gratefully accepted. I have shot Longbows and I feel that a 45 to 50 LB at 26 inch draw, bow would suit me.

There are two types of Longbow in the UK. There is the victorian longbow (aka Butt Bow) and the medieval warbow.

Butt bows have a raised mid section and have draw weights upto 80# roughly. They have a stiff mid section (more wood) and the last 6" or so of each limb does not bend much either. They also have a grip.

Warbows are full compass (bend the entire length of the bow) and the draw weights start at 80# and weights of 180# have been shot.

And just because I've got it today and still beaming about it: http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...arge-pics.html

The best woods, IMO for longbows is bamboo and osage orange for victorian butt bows and osage orange combination bows/yew for warbows.

Kae.

Cheers Kae,
I have been told that warbows can not be used in some competitions. I am still wanting to compete in target and clout events.
