18 year old sets new US recurve FITA record

A bit late, but Brady Ellison set a new US record shooting 1357 last week during the US nationals. He switched from Compound to Recurve in order to chase the olympic dream - looks like he's catching it too !

Pulling over 50# in draw weight, shooting X10s, a matthews riser and what look like Sky Conquest limbs, Brady's been shooting since before he can remember, but competitively for 6 years, he swapped from compound to recurve in 2005 and he now trains 8-9 hours a day in Chula Vis Olympic Training Camp.

If I could afford to not work, I'd train that much, honestly!

I'd love to give it a go one day. Maybe a sabbatical's in order.

I've got the next couple of weeks off, and due to over spending on last year's summer holiday, I'm not actually going anywhere at all this year. So I intend to go shooting every morning for at least a week, just as a test of how tiring it is, and to see if it makes any difference to my shooting. As it is, I shoot 3-4 times a week but it'll be interesting to do it intensely for a short while.

Sounds like heaven!

I've got a week off over the bank holiday, so potentially I could try something similar, afte rthe acorn shoot on the monday, I could see if I could do the whole week, with at least a 9-dozen round everyday.

I reckon it'll be pretty hardcore, but in the second week, you'd be feeling pretty strong.

This is a feat of great shooting but dont forget, they have a better high end sports training setup in america for any sport. I would be surprised if he trains on his own each day. Im sure he has some one helping him, but still a great score.

So would I! The OTC is a well-setup place, with several great coaches (including the great Ki-Sik Lee himself!). There is a lot of "own-time" shooting at the OTC, but a significant amount of hands-on development, as well as all the other training (nutrition, fitness, psychology) and world class facilities. But - it's still a great result given all that.

They just have the time, in britain we too have the training facilities, money, fitness, psychology, physiotherapist. And 2 korean coaches with a team of coaches such as Maggie S. Jan M. Graham and many many more. I see next year is going to be another good one internationaly.
