BTC 2008 Sponsorship

After the debate on the BTC thread I thought it only fair to put my (companies) money where my mouth is. So here goes:

I have spoken to GNAS today and have written to Mr Eley and Mr Sherratt. My company is offering a one off grant and contingency for any GB archer attending the BTC in 2008 who is in full time education either at school or in further education such as University.

It has been made clear that there are no sponsorship conditions of any kind and that we do not want ANY involvement with the selection of the archer. This will be down to the performance and coaching team.

The small grant we are offering is only conditional on attendance and not performance and would be paid with money we have paid to GNAS. This hopefully would cover the costs of the weekend in terms of entry fee, petrol, food etc.

The contingency we are offering is that should the sponsored archer win then they will get an additional fee 1.5x the grant. 2nd place would give them double the grant and 3rd place an additional 50% of the grant.

Should the archer not place in the top 3 then the funds would be available to any other archer in full time education who places (or shared if more than one)

The cheque has been sent with the letter.

Please note that this proposal has not been accepted by GNAS yet, it is only a proposal put forward by our company. If it is accepted then I will let you all know. If it is not then we will be looking at an alternative way of providing this incentive to attend the BTC 2008.

Can i just appologise upfront on behalf of the british olympic team for not attenting the 2008 BTC as unfortunatly they will be busy shooting in the olympic games, I hope this is a good enough reason for them to miss this event without anyone thinking they are rude.

No, but some valid points were raised about why archers may not want attend the BTC. I made some statements which I feel I need to back up with actions and so I am prepared to back my proposal with real money. Not discounts off archery kit for wearing a company shirt or anything like that.

Real money in cash with absolutely no strings attached for an archer that GNAS select themselves.

Apart from supplying the dosh we will have absolutely no involvement in the process whatsoever.

It is open to young ladies and gents, able bodied and disabled. Any GB archer who is in full time education.

yes but many up and coming juniors will not and that is why we are proposing the award for youngsters next year. If it is succesful (or even accepted by GNAS) we may consider opening it up in future years to all.

As has been pointed out to me quite forcefully, there are many very hard working young archers out there who are giving up a lot of their time. They perhaps don't yet enjoy the profile that some of our top adult archers do and so may find it difficult to attract sponsorship from archery companies..... So here is a break for them.

Just curious, so dont take this question the wrong way, but why the education stipulation?
I am sure there must also be many very hard working young archers who are on low incomes and find it hard to fit archery in around their employment. Not all employers are performance friendly and certainly at club level, we lose most of our young adults and older juniors at the point when they leave school and start work.
Brave move. Is this the start of a new trend, private sponsors?

Not until there is a serious shake up in the sport, the majority of sponsors want some kind of return for investing the money, and if you look at where they are spending the money know, that usually means logos on shirts etc. Which for "non archery retailers and organisations" is banned under GNAS dress code.

Going back to original post Watchman, why does 1st place only get 1.5 times sponsorship and 2nd place gets double, is this just a typo or are you encouraging young archer's to get beaten?

Win: Grant + 1.5x grant = 2.5x grant
Second: Double grant = 2x grant
Third: Grant + 0.5x grant = 1.5x grant

Took me a couple of reads, but that looks like the gist of it.
