Information

As a spin off from the lobby thread....

Are you aware of when and where meetings are taking place at a national, regional and local level? And would you attend?

Talking

I can only speak for Lancashire Archery Association (LAA), but meeting are about 4 or 5 times a year (your club secretary should be invited). All members are invited to attend, but there is only one vote per club (except fopr AGMs and EGMs).

They send representatives to Northern Counties meetings..........and I assume Northern Counties send representatives to GNAS.

If you want to be involved then nag your club secretary. New blood is always welcome at these meetings................Currently the average age of attendees to these meetings is 123 (including me )

Hampshire sends out invites to all club secretaries, and all are welcome. I don't attend as it's always on a club night and usually when I am coaching

No and Yes, as long as I thought that my views would be heard and have an impact.

I may have to be shooting for a bit longer if I am going to be taken seriously at that kind of meeting. Its a shame that the views of newbies are not taken seriuosly becuase the one thing that Newbies know about is getting into the sport for the first time.

Sponge.

Says who? Well thought-out views are usually listened to (in Yorkshire!)

No - I'm not aware. And yes - I would attend if I felt I had something to say. But since I am a GNAS member by virtue of my sub being collected as part of my club fees, I understand I wouldn't be entitled to a hearing anyway!

In the interest of this thread, can anyone quickly give a definitive correct answer on this one: at a GNAS meeting are only direct GNAS members allowed to vote?

They should listen to you..as you are a paid up member, but you would not be entitled to vote upon any of the issues raised.

Sponge.
The newbies are arguably the best people to listen to as they are less likely to have been ground into submission by diktats handed down from on high - or to put it another way, bring a fresh perspective to what may unwittingly become a stagnant view of the sport and the membership thereof.
