| Helena, I know the isolation of not having any friends to shoot with, but if you stick it out, things may change. Meanwhile, ask yourself why you're in archery. Do you want to go as far as you can or do you just want it as a social outlet? I know, especially at your age, it would be better to have both, but that's not always possible. Do not fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. You are unique, creative, strong, intelligent, funny and very loving. You have a lot of friends here of all ages who support you and your archery. It would be a shame for the sport to lose someone as special as you. *hugs*

| Achieving a goal! Its a very close to the heart subject this but here is my thoughts on the subject. Ive strived at many sports in the past and my accolades are many but the thought process has been different for many and Id say archery has struck me as being the strangest. We could start from the beginning and Athletics I was told right from the start that my prefered distance 400/800 was not for a shorter athlete but I managed to retain a UK ranking of below 20 for 4 years as I got older, winning several titles on the way. It was a coach of many years of experience and a Uk athletics (then) director who said your short but youve got the technique and stride of a 6 ft athlete have a go at the 400 hurdles. I always strived that I would not let myself down firstly and every time I tried my best for my couch who now I look back invested so much time on a troublesome boy! My Oxon record was beaten three years ago after standing for over 20 years. A long time in athletics I was also UK no 1 for 4years at Ultimate Enduro racing. And also represented UK at Dragon Boating, not bad for a short bloke! So MAD never doubt yourself you are in a small band of very good athletes, you have and will posses skills people will dream of in the future. Sadly you are growing at a stupid rate and your body coordination will be affected beyond your control its growing up and getting over these probs is it when it is marvelous I promise!. Bad days will come but they will go as well just as quickly but you are so upbeat that you can win any competition only people shooting beyond their ability are really beating you. And their coach is not as good as yours and this will tell over time. Sometimes Im so surprised that people beat me at archery don't they know my natural ability!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! He He |

| hi littlist lifes worst/biggest critic is thyself (usually wrong) self belief is a powerful weapon, if enough people say you are good then hold your head up high and believe it. friends will come and go the one true friend who will never leave you is yourself. as a dad myself, i no 100% that yours will be proud of you, and to him you are world champ, whatever you achieve. material things do not prove anything, it is what's inside that counts. good luck ![]() |

| Archery is a funny sport . one day is sometimes so different from another. Most archers that stick with it get better. Not all of us are to be champions ,but it is nice to spoil a champions day once in a while. Archery is a sport that you can take to a late age, so dint give up so quickly. good luck

Just before I went onto Squads I had moved away from Recurve to compound as It was going a little wrong so fancied a change. My suggestion is dont give it up. I did 4 years ago and regretted it. Im now shooting again and love. 2 options 1 take a break for 6 months and start again refreshed and rareing to go or 2 try your hand at compound. You wont get to the oylimpics but you could still get on the GB team. Plus you will be shooting and loving it. Keep your chin up and keep going. It all come rosey in the end.

I would dominate the whole essex junior circuit. However at the Racketts tournament one archer would show up who worried me. Justin Gibbs whould turn up and beat me down. This happend over a couple years. I worked hard and enjoyed myself and kept going. Each year he would beat me. Then I went to Junior nats and he beat me there to. You could say Justin was my Unicorn. We both made GB squad and he still out shone me. However I managed to catch up and he (for a number of reasons) started to slip. I kept going and eventually overtook him and was shooting better than he was. No matter howimpossible it seems just keep going and with a little determination you can achieve anything you want.

| Youngsters get disallusioned, fact of sport. ANY sport. For a myriad of reasons, how many people have you chatted with who "had a try out for such and such a team". Only the real strong characters stick at it. Not enjoying the company of your peers is a major headache, i watched a junior from our club at the county weekend & he looked VERY uncomfortable on his target/section of the line because he's a quiet-ish thoughtful highley intelligent lad & the "vocal" part of the group he was shooting with never let anyone else get a word in edgeways. He actually spent more time talking to me & the guys on my target than with his peers. His target companions obviously had no idea they were making him uncomfortable, however it does effect your mental state. I know a senior gent who had a terrible shoot because he was rubbed up the wrong way by a target companion. I will say this ENJOY your archery, my "non archery" mates don't understand what i'm on about, BUT they do understand i enjoy it & therefore are happy for me. I'm sure there are lots teenage girls in archery at the moment, who find it hard to deal with the "others" who are immature etc etc etc. come and shoot with me, i'm so childish its not even funny, then your colleagues antics will seem minor compared to me...

| Should visit our uni club. you would have a great laugh its more like a kids day care centre some nights. This does happen a lot LFF, in a uni club you see the people who join because it looks good but when they dont seem to be getting good scores they just dissapear. But some shoot for the enjoyment, I myself am one of these, and everytime ive thought of giving it all up i think about how much fun id miss if i did.

| What you've got to think about LFF is how things change. LilMissM earlier in the year, when CW and a couple of others started coming down to the club less, she felt left out, and was losing touch with her archery friends. Now obviously she had met you on a couple of occasions, but hadn't really talked much to you - until the Nationals! Now you're even talking to me (poor you). And I'm am totally convinced that both your mum and dad are are very proud of you (except of course when you expected your mum to walk back from the station at the weekend!) See you at the Junior indoors eh!
