| Novice status I've been looking at the tournament lists for the upcoming season, trying to plan which I can enter and noticed that some forms require you to enter whether you're a novice still. I started shooting last june/july time. Am I still a novice until 1 calender year is up, just for the first season I shot in, or is it until I pay my second lot of club subs? Cheers | |||||||||||||

| I may be wrong but I'm sure the DNAA novice comp last year was for those in their 1st year of GNAS or until their 1st open competition.

| I was under the impression that you are a novice until you get a handicap and a classification! The classification over takes the novice status.

I guess there is some leeway for each club/comp to have additional conditions.

Maybe it would be a good idea to speak to the tournament organiser.

For a start you can get a handicap before you get a classification (if your scores are not high enough to make 3rd class outdoors). Until you you have a classification you are 'unclassified'. You could I think remain unclassified for years if you do not shoot scores that are sufficiently high enough to make 3rd class. An alternative is that you may become "non-classified" after the first year, but I would have to check the exact wording in the GNAS handbook. Novice is for the first year as described above. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| You need to check if some clubs have their own stipulation for a novice shoot... I was going to enter one in my 1st year but couldn't as they didn't allow anyone bowman or above. (I believe the theory was to encourage everyone along with the knowledge that all would be in with a chance!) ![]()
