94 Archery Venues for 2012 pre-training

With GNAS announcing that there will be 94 venues spread across the 12 regions for pre-olympic training for International archers, do you think your club will offer support to one of these venues - many located in cricket grounds?

The full story is on the GNAS website - Grand National Archery Society Ltd.

While I am sure many of us would be more than happy to help out, I just wonder what support will actually materialise. Just look at how difficult it is getting a work party together for a local shoot.

I think the decision is a good one by GNAS in that spreading the load may also be a positive step in raising the profile of archery.

It was on the radio that Lincoln uni is to provide accommodation and training facilities for the 2012 Olympics. I haven't heard any specifics yet from managers. I will post if I find anything out, especially archery rlated. The princess royal sports centre in Boston was also mentioned.

Will Friskney field be on the list? Malcolm and Janet could put their caravan on the field and have your very own mini olympic village!

Seriously though, where was the invite to offer? I am sure many clubs could and would be chuffed to offer facilities. We would, but we're probably just not good enough!

Boston have athletics and fencing, I think the local problem would have been accomodation - I can't quite see Butlins Skegness as a mini-olympic village. Malcolm and Janets caravan would have been a bit small to get them all in although I know Janet would have made them all nice pack-ups!

I just hope all the regions and clubs get behind GNAS on this and offer as much support as possible. While at club level we haven't heard anything it is 4 years away and perhaps a little early to be getting down to our level.

I would be happy to go and be on the workparty as I know several in our club would as well.

The venues all get money for hosting whoever comes to train at their facility, so presumably that'll more than cover the cost of providing new target bosses and stands etc. They won't need much of a field party once they're all set up at 70m. An intersting opportunity to watch top archers training though I can't see many wanting to come up as far as Scotland.
