Question: Where do you stay when you shoot at Lilleshall?

You may have heard on the grapevine that Lilleshall is banning students from camping at the annual BUSA shoot. Obviously students can't afford the hotel itself and Lilleshall hosts a lot of these big tournaments - so where do you stay when you shoot there? Or do you just drive there and back in one day?

Presumably it's just the trouble they get with those student types as there is no such restriction on camping for the May 3/4 th Fita, afaik. But if as you say it's "on the grapevine" i would suggest you contact Lilleshall direct for conformation or denial. I have the phone no somewhere, PM me if your stuck.

To be honest I've never liked camping at Lillieshall and being very much in the anit-fita busa camp if they have to have a shorter round so people can get there and home in a day I'm all for it.... of course, I shoot a York in Neath on the Sunday so I'll be heading down to Swansea on the Saturday evening anyway.

And if the weather is bad I've a friend who lives in Wolverhampton whom I can steal a sofa-bed off... a nice pub just down the road, tv, kitchen with that all important kettle for making tea....

I don't know if any fires were lit, but the reasons for no camping being allowed are due to vandalism and damage caused by the footballers the following day (as witnessed by the archers). However, the FA pay lillieshall a gazillion pounds a year to use the facillities, and we book for one day a year, incidently a day that prevents them from taking more profitable bookings.....

I think the fire damage was the year before, during the heatwave. There was the Imperial bonfire on the bonfire concrete circle and...another one in the middle of the camping field. Plus a shortage of bricks for the bbqs.
Last year was a mudslick. No-one would have been able to tell if there'd been bbqs or not. Half the camping field was unusable due to it being waterlogged and the number of places to park cars without them getting stuck were small. I ended up waking up halfway through the first night with a wet sleeping bag so my team moved inside the pavillion, tents an'all.

Frankly getting camping equipment from London as well as archery equipment when only one person has a car, is a pain in the #### anyway, so if anyone knows a nearby b&b/hostel w/e it's a much better option.

And I just checked Lilleshall itself. Booked out already for Fri 13th and Sat 14th June.

What's obvious about that? Students seem to be able to afford pretty decent bow set ups so what's the problem with a nights B&B.

If we had an archery club then the AU would pay for it all.

Yes... I can remember one month when all I had to eat was beans and rice (actually, they go together quite nice). Or the last two years of my post-grad where I had to work four days a week to pay the rent...

I also loved the way that four months before I started the brand new Labour Government went back on an election promise and brought in student fees. Wow, I loved suddenly discovering that I was going to finish uni £15,000 in debt. Yay me!!

*shrugs*
My archery club is poor and my money goes quickly in London.
Calculating how much it would cost me were I in England this year:
  • £42.80 train if I booked early enough
  • £50+ for two nights in a b&b in Newport, (as I said Lilleshall is full already.)
  • Plus food.
  • Plus taxis.
So that's over #100. I can't remember how much ULU reimbursed us last year for travel, but it wasn't much. 20% or something.

Plus I made that statement on the mistaken belief it was one of those posh, full board, including afternoon tea, country hotels.
