| what is archery? Aerobic exercise is defined as higher intensity that needs lots of oxygen. Anaerobic is defined as lower intensity activities performed for longer periods of time. However, I know that in training, anaerobic exercise is when you're training hardcore and building up lactic acid faster than your body can get rid of it. So is archery aerobic or anaerobic???

| The answer to this really comes down to how you define aerobic and anaerobic. From a biology and biochemistry point of view, archery is aerobic really as you don't do enough to use the anaerobic processes related to more exertion sports. Ok, so not a great description, I'm tired and I left uni last year! Kae. |

| I'd agree with Kae - if something is anaerobic then you aren't using oxygen to burn fuel and are causing lactic acid to build up. However, in archery we don't really hold our breath, or if we do its not for long enough to run out of oxygen in the way that sprinters do meaning that the exercise done is aerobic. You could also see archery as an endurance sport where it is keeping the muscles going as efficiently as possible for the longest length of time as you would with distance running - an aerobic sport. However, on most days when I'm not on form, archery is like golf - a good walk spoilt. |
