When a beginners course has been run at your club, how successful are they usually..... ... By that I mean...

What percentage finish the full course?
How many join ( % wise ) the club afterwards?
Do they stay at the club or filter out to a level?.....

Paul....

of the 30 or so people that have come through our beginners course over the past 18 months, all bar 3 have stayed with the club. Some are more regular than others but we do see them all regularly.

Most if not all join, stay until first renewal, if they are regular attenders then they renew but maybe only 20% max.

recent figures suggest approx 80% complete the course
50% join the club
20% renew at year end.
5% of new membership comes from other clubs.
5% of membership return as lapsed members

Of those who expressed an opinion, "not having enough time" and "archery isnt the sport for me" are the two main reasons for not completing the course and/or not joining the club.

Of those who join the club but do not renew at year end, we do not have enough responses to clearly indicate a majority specific reason or group of reasons.

I can't speak for my club in Bristol, but at home we find that around 25% of the beginners (we usually only have 8 per course) stay on and generally those that do, and who buy their own equipment, will generally continue to shoot. We do get a few who come along after the course, shoot with the club equipment but then leave when the time comes for them to get their own kit (we don't have enough to cater for beginners and people who have just come off the course at the same time).
