To give her some credit, it was the first round of the semi finals.
After finishing in the top 32 in the nationals.

But it does highlight a interesting issue...

With unlimited resources, plenty of time and a world class coach, she did very well but was unable to make it.

I guess natural talant will always be the key.

Fox made the GB team in 18 months, IIRC. No idea if he had coaching though...

From start to GB for me was under 5 years, with an almost year-long break in there. But there was some coaching in that time.

I'm sorry I never intended to discredit her performance which is most praiseworthy. I was simply replying to not dead yet's assertion that "she lost out by a few points nothing more" with a few figures.

No worries worthipa,

On another note, does anybody know if she still shoots and if so, how she is getting on?

With suitable monitoring and guidance it is possible. More difficult but not impossible without ........... and they would have to be very dedicated and do additional research themselves.

A question that you undoubtedly know the answer to already.

By way of slight diversion, isn't there a policy among some GB Olympic sports to look at competitors in other sports to find those who meet the "perfect" physical criteria, with a view to hot-housing them towards 2012, if not 2008? I seem to recall a young female rower has been a particular success for this programme. If we knew what a perfect archery physique was, would this sort of programme be feasible?

Considering archery is such a head game, I would think that it would be more prudent to look for the " ideal "psycological profile in potential archers.

sp220-

if you are refering to AF and ML, then one had a bad shoulder injury and the other went off to Uni,both life changing things, and on reflection they decided that there were more important things to do do with their time, had nothing to do with talent identified archers not making it.
If not these poeple, would be interested as to who you are alluding to.

supporting your point, look how many of the original "2012" young archers are still going from the original 20+. Things change in poeples lives, when they were first selected , they were told by head coach that very few would last the course, and so it is proving to be the case.

on original theme
18mths to get to GB senior with little assistance- not a snowballs chance in hell unless you are shooting 1250+ Fitas and 630+ 720's already. then when you have made the requisite improvements to score levels, you have to hope that the present incumbants have not made similar improvements.

if it is feasible then I would say that it can realistically only be achieved by a compound archer. I cannot see a recurve archer doing it in the time frame.

Wink How long to GB

Ive read with some interest this thread. Going off comments from what I believe to be well respected archers, how can someone who is only first class accept the hype of some archers who a) say they are a higher discipline than what their scores dictate and b) coaches who "coach" people from MB down to a 1st class score?

Very confused, and hoping for an intelligent response from those really in the know.
