I must say in all the years I have been shooting, that if ever archers are taking a long time to get back to the line from collecting arrows it is always the judges asking archers to move on. The aim being to keep the shoot moving. That was also apparent this weekend at the YAA double FITA. So I don't feel that judges hold up the shoots at all.

At the Yorkshires we finished late due to a high level of bouncers and equipment failures that was very unlucky in a days shooting. You can't really blame shoot hold ups on judges as there are so many different factors that can hold up shoots. For instance bouncers equipment failures and weather conditions.

Sorry if you don't agree but thats my opinion.

This is where the FITA bouncer rule is such a pain. Slows everything down to a crawl.

Especially if ( to come back to the point of the thread) judges are so slow to get to and from the target line!

It should be mandatory, that judges are issued with push bikes...especially at FITA's...and maybe even a tandem for the bouncers or hangers.

Wouldn't pushing bikes backwards and forwards slow things down even more?

I get to watch fairly closely what is going on and I cannot say I have seen any indication that judges are slowing these shoots down. I have seen lost arrows and archers being asked to look during the break if they are taking too long and I have seen judges walking back slowly behind the last remaining archers but only for safety to ensure everyone is across the line.

What I have noticed at every single competition without exception is that its the guys line that always causes delays and generally speaking are the last back to the line. Where the ladies and gents are split it is always the ladies who collect and return first. Shoot me down in flames if you want but someone actual told me at Lincoln that they had timed it and that the ladies would have finished the FITA star about 30 mins before the gents if they had been shooting on seperate fields.

I agree entirely

If it wasn't for Judges there wouldn't be any shoots.

I'm personally quite 'pro' judge - but is it really true that shoots wouldn't exist without them?

Well, it would be very hard to have any sort of WRS shoot without an approved judge.
