Ratio of bowstyles at your club

Hi everybody!

Just interested to find out what kind of ratio there is of the different bow styles at your club.

At my club the majority of active members are Barebow or Compound shooters.

I am one of only 4 recurve shooters that i know of there, so Recurve is definitely the minority.

There is also a growing traditional movement at the club, a few longbows but mostly Asiatic recurves such as Hunnish bows. I occasionally shoot my Hun or my homemade Longbow so am in this group as well.

so whats it like at your club?

i would also like to know what type of club it is to see if there is any correlation. Mine is a Field archery club ( Pentref Bowmen ) so i would expect Barebow and compound to have a more heavy count. I would imagine a target club would have far more recurve/compound and less traditional and barebow for example

Depends on which club -

Farnham (when I'm at home) - as far as I know there are only 3 compounders (including myself) to I'd guess around 30 odd recurvers, although I may be woefully wrong on the number of recurvers. I've not seen any longbowmen/trad archers but I imagine there are some.

Cleve - not sure, I'd probably guess that it was fairly even between compound and recurve, possibly slightly in favour of recurve with a fet longbow archers as well.

At Friskney we have several archers who shoot more than one style regularly. I would guess

40% recurve
30% compound
30% longbow

At my present club(target) its about 60/40 recurve/wooden bows.

At my last club(target) it was about 70/30 recurve/compound

I've shot at a few other clubs(target archery) in friendlies and i seem to be noticing a trend. Its starting to look like it depends on the experience/age/size of the archer at the club which determines whats being used.Smaller and older people seem to shoot with a compound.Newbies tend to shoot with a recurve

At Uni:

1 compound
4 longbow
5 barebow
30 or so regular recurve shooters

Although we are hoping to diversify a bit next year.

I would guess that it is similar for most university clubs as recurve is what counts in most competitions.

At home I would guess 60% compound 40% recurve, however I have not shot with this club for very long, but I have not seen any traditional archers there.

target club

membership apparently 104 (maybe 40-60 of those are 'active' (as opposed to occasional) shooters with about 30 being what id call regulars)

of the active archers id guess -

60% recurve
40% longbow / flatbow / asiatic
0% compound

although we do have a fairly high number of archers (myself included) who occasionally switch between recurve and trad or vice-versa for a bit of a change every so often

We're a target club and it is almost entirely recurve with a small (but strong) longbow contingent and then two compounders.

As for Uni just see what Mistake says.

I didn't realise you also shot at Farnham HH, I used to shoot for them before moving over to guildford (they were closer to home).
