Hey Reedy

if you like fun archery with fun people, and are looking for a fun club with a good age spread Home

7 yrs old to 60+ and all ages in between down here, and we are a friendly bunch

but we don't do target archery being a field only club, so if you are the right end of Devon and field orientated get in touch

Then marrying and starting a family meant that it fell by the wayside for 15 years! I returned to the sport when my eldest son expressed a desire to try archery.
^^ This may have a lot to do with it - Im 30 something and like a laugh the same as everyone else, but also a single parent of two boys with no family support anywhere near me. To shoot on a sunday morning I either have to bring my youngest son with me (who is too young to shoot 8yrs) and eldest son stays at home (but hes not old enough to look after youngest), or wait until they see their Dad which is once every three weeks.

To shoot in the evening, I have to bring youngest son with me, and then if its on a school night it gets a bit late. Id also quite happily shoot in drizzly weather, but I cant expect him to sit there in the rain playing his DS.

A lot of 20-30 somethings have similar, juggling maybe UNI, careers, children, families, other halfs, life. Doesnt mean they dont want to go to archery and have a laugh, just its not as easy.

Also does it mean that once you get past the age of 30 something - that you dont laugh anymore - gawd, I might as well give up now

Old man may be a bit strong. These days i'd think you'd have to call it middle age.Anyway, the answer IMO is yes.I've only being doing archery 13 months, but every club i have knowledge of has an "older" membership.I personely dont mind though.Everything i know and do on the shooting line is down to the knowledge aqquired from the "older" archer.Don't forget they have been and done what your trying to do.

Also bear in mind that 16-20 year olds are doing the teen thing.20-40 year olds are too busy having families.40-50 year olds are too busy getting over having a family. That leaves juniors and 50+ as the only people who have the time.Like you though,i would like to see more 30-40 year olds in the sport, but it is what it is.Give the old g*ts a chance There not realy that grumpy once there warmed up

Hi Reedy,
When I took up archery approx 28 years ago, I was 15 years old and by far the youngest in the club. The 'twenty somethings' didn't much talk to me, as I was too young to have anything in common with them.

Now returning to the sport at 43 I suppose the twenty somethings won't talk much to me, as I'll be 'past it' for them and we won't really have much in common.

C'est la vie eh?

I don't think age is the real issue here,as you get miserable people of all ages.
Some 'archers' seem to be in it to 'enforce rules and run a club' rather than shoot (which is ok so long as they don't get confused and think that they 'are' the club )
