Are you sure you heard right? It could have been Megafee and not Macafee.

Sounds like this (or a similar product from McAfee) is just a rubber-stamping-for-cash exercise that isn't impressing industry experts:

As a fellow retailer (albeit a smaller one!) I have had the same call so they are indeed doing the rounds. Wouldn't make any odds at all to me in increased sales and it's just another sales technique for them to make you part with your hard-earned. As long as you're using SSL etc then shop's as secure as it can be with or without their stamp

But it's not as big a pain as most Norton products: at least you can un-install McAfee.

Agreed. It's just another company trying to sell their version of security off the back of their reputation in the field. If you've got a functioning web page with no extraneous code that uses secure connections (SSL) to trusted (banks) payment processors then you're about as secure as you're going to get.

At least it wasn't Norton calling...

The only good products ever to come from Norton were the Dominator and the Commando...

Probably because "Archery" comes under "A" in Yellow Pages! I bet Aardvark got an early call ....

Personally I just look for the lock symbol at the bottom of the page when I go to a secure server to make a payment.
