| thanks for that flourpower... i have twin boys phil is 100% street wise. matt .liverpool uni archery was a little quiet when he first went to uni.. now blackbelt tae kwon do. we may be wary but parents must let their children work it out for themselves. child protection is getting more like a religeous cult than an information system for guidance. |

| It is interesting that we have a CPP (Child's Protection Policy). You would have thought that our governing body, not only having the CPP in place, would also have a CPP in place. The CCP in this instance being the Coach's Protection Policy.

| old bloke you've been associated with archery as long as i. when we were younger everyone gave you a friendly clack around then head. now its associated with brain tumours, etc. the archery field is for the enjoyment of the masses, the only sport where a target of 4 can consist of a mother ,aGB team member, a junior, and an absolute begginer. now its dont stand too close to the juniors, dont touch that woman in front of you , be aware the police aren't about. dont take anyone to archery tournies. i mean lets face it forget the nasty little junior of accusing someone because he's had a bad day. what about the female club member thats had an arguement with her hubby b4 she gets in your car to go to a tourny. and decides she is goin to tell her hubby she slept with you on the way home. It could happen. old bloke. whats happened matey |

| You might be interested to know that the "government" has reviewed the whole process and published their findings - its mainly about the affect the legislaton has had on volunteering - you can download the papers from here Child Protection Legislation and Volunteering in Scottish Sport On the note of students - its quite simple to implement by appointing a CPO having enough responsible students CRB'd and having a policy that treats everyone with respect with regard to e.g. "hands on coaching". I'm sure as an educated group you look after the interests of your younger and newer members anyway with regard to may of the new delights they might sample at university as regardless of the activity it's all about making informed choices is it not? Oh dear I'm sounding like yer mother ![]()

| thanks for that muriel. but its only the scotish version. how many volounteers / archers / coaches have had the response from a junior or any child that has caused .a problem/ nuisense or trouble. with the words you cant touch me, i'll have you arrested. majority is lack of disipline due to over jealous child protection. boss in work a few weeks ago was sending us to other departments while ours was on refurb. i said send me tank cleaning and i'll follow you home and murder your family. he knows i was only joking. but can he be sure we now live in a world of total uncertainty |

| You can make as many informed choices as you like..and the best there is within your abilty to judge..the trouble is..it only needs a finger to be pointed without just cause..and you are on your own.

At 20 to 30 yards you're unlikely to miss if you aim for the fake burberry logo. Bad luck if it glances off a gold chain, concealed knife or mobile phone. Next, paddle off down the rapids as fast as you can and don't say nothin' to the sherrif. ![]() ![]() ![]() None of the above applies if the Chav is under 16 of course!

It is a case of common-sense at the end of the day, but I wish parents did take more interest in their kids instead of using archery as a baby sitting service. One day I was really annoyed with a parent at my club. I was shooting solo at the club, and saw a car arrive that I thought was one of the coaches for the junior club - arriving to early to get things ready. As I was walking up to collect my arrows I noticed the car drive away again - to my horror a parent had dropped their daughter off, and just left! Now I am in a bind, what do I do? I am not CRB checked, so am I instantly in trouble? I am not supposed to be on the field alone with a junior, so do I just leave? If I leave and she gets attacked (as the field is kind of remote) will I be at fault for leaving her there? What did I do? I packed up, and waited in my car until another parent arrived, and then left - it was their problem then! Plus in the future no early morning shooting, I go to the gym instead.
