We certainly don't need any more rules.
well I agree - we were a most serious target at the weekend - "while we were shooting" and we had fun and enjoyed each others company off the line, we took putting the scores down and checking the end totals too.

.... sometimes the FUN bit comes from having good arrows and knowing at the end of the day you put in a good effort and were able to focus on the shooting because the shoot was being run well.

Tbh I find GNAS rounds a pain the a*se having to move scopes around after every end and re-point them at the target. I'd rather they be either left on the line always like in a FITA or not allowed to be used on the line at all.
I dont understand why more archers per boss would cause a problem as the ROS requires extra distance between bosses (and therefore more room for each archer)
301. Range Layout
(b) Minimum spacing of target centres shall be:
(i) Archers shooting singly or in pairs – 2.5m (8ft 2ins)
(ii) Archers shooting in threes – 3.66m (12ft)

One allowed almost unlimited use before shooting and during breaks.
Another limited use during breaks to distances that had already been shot.
Another closed the practise field altogether after shooting had started for the day and wouldnt even allow local club members to use it for club practise not connected to the shoot at all.
This year, we dispensed with the seperate field altogether.

A separate field is not covered by the rules concerning 'official practice' as official practice like sighters is shot on the competition targets (but when I asked it was confirmed you should not place a limit on the number of arrows you can shoot per end). If you have a separate field that isn't governed by the rules quoted (or any rules I think [edit: other the safety ones etc and there are guideline for GNAS h2h events too]) and I therefore suppose is fully open to local conditions.

[quote=tel;250566]bit of an aside - but I attended a WRS Fita shoot today that had six sighters instead of practice....how does that work then?[/Q

just scoured fita rule book says 20 - 45 mins min -max for practice .

your only going to get one end of practice in 20 mins so . it is actually all above board

A Shoot Without Scopes

I should take up fishing! The phrase hook, line and sinker comes to mind. Mention scopes and many people are up in arms, for an against. I was reading a lot on Archery Iterchange so i decided to throw in my little comment to see what I could draw in. I did not say that scopes were banned, which was made clear at the outset, it was simply a request by the organisers, a request that was accepted by all present. The shoot is a friendly event frequented by archers of all persuasions who enjoy a pleasant shoot and come for the FUN. Those of you who get uptight at the slightest thing try and think back to why you started archery, if you started for fun and enjoyment, a chance to socialise and a bit of exercise then this type of shoot is for you. if you started as a very serious competitive type who lives by scores, then this definitely is not for you. However, now and again even the most serious has to "chill out" and relax, perhaps a shoot like this should be added to training schedule of archers to let the mind and body take a rest.

I think the problem is that different people "enjoy" different things, and people go to shoots with different objectives. Some people may be at a shoot just to get out and shoot some arrows. Others may be trying to beat their PB, does that mean they can't have fun as well.

Although you say that it was just a "request" I wouldn't have wanted to be the only archer who decided that they would use a scope.

I went to a local York this weekend and my aim was to try to put in a decent score, to do that I would want to use my scope, if the organisers had asked for no scopes it would have spoilt my fun.

Not disagreeing with the no scope option but I feel to only bring it up at the start of a shoot is too late.

Also the York I shot on Sunday started at 10.00am we had two comfort breaks and over an hour for lunch, a raffle and prize giving and I was still in my car by 6.30pm, and there were scopes everywhere.

It was a good fun shoot, we even had two shooting lines, the nearest one for 50yds so we didn't have to move the targets forward after the 60yd distance!!

Sounds like a great idea to me - keeping the shooting line clear
