| Transparent Selection Process? While visiting the Scottish Archery Website (it is very good for getting useful information) I came across their selection procedure for the Commonwealth Games in 2010. It is clearly laid out, has been announced in a timely manner to allow all those interested to take part, is fair in that apart from one event everyone has to compete at the same qualifying events. The web page on their site really puts this across well - Squads & Teams Perhaps some lessons could be learn't from this example of clear and transparent selection.

If the system is that the head coach picks his best friends, then state that that is the process and be sure that it IS the head coach that picks his best friends then have an appeal process whereby candidates can argue over who is the bestest friend. A process is based on best 3 scores, should be clear on what rounds are acceptable and over what time period.

| the actual common wealth committee's score criteria is missing. these shoots are for the benefit of anyone that can possibly make the scottish team. i have a nasty suspiction that there will be no welsh team. 1 or 2 scotish team. and the english team will possibly be GB archers. as it stands the criteria is an archer must have scores within the top eight of all commonwealth countries . so take the rest of the world out of the world cup at dover results and you may have a reasonable idea of what score you need to go. pete |

| I think the way it has been presented by Scotland is what drew my attention. I am not criticizing any current procedure just drawing attention to what looks like best practice (or the best I have seen so far) Perhaps the addition of published selection results with who submitted scores, the scores submitted and from which events. If this was a running total throughout the selection period then everyone could see where they stood. So instead of sending scores in at the end, archers would express an interest and then submit for each required event. I cannot see why any selectors would have an issue with being seen to be fair and transparent? It would be a shame if Wales could not take part I believe you maybe correct in saying GB archers will make up the England team but I cannot see how this is an issue if they are the best from a transparent selection process. Just as a Scottish, NI or Wales archer should not be excluded because they have shot for GB. I can understand the importance of allowing non-GB to shoot at Euronations and home nations but as far as the Commonwealth Games go I believe we should not have to compete with one hand tied behind our back.A selection process as instigated by Scotland ensures a level playing field and would allow those archers up and coming this year to plan the shoots they need for next year and focus their efforts in that direction.

| We do have a rolling ranking systems for all our selection for our archers so WE know where we are. ![]() NDY - GC Scotland haven't published score criteria for us. I understood it was make the top 8 in Britain for the Welsh Selection. I wouldn't be surprised if its near that for us too at the end of the day.

i've been told that the commonwealth committee have already set the criteria and you must have scores in the range of the top eight in your class of the commonwealth. in my eyes we may have australia , india, england with full teams if thats the case. as told by WAA chairperson. |

| Well theres no chance for Northern Ireland then! I've been told that NI are sending 72 athletes in total and only full teams from events they're likely to win medals eg bowls, shooting, boxing and possibly rugby which leaves maybe 1 or 2 places for archers. How these archers are selected hasn't been decided, could be British ranking, scores etc. Also i heard that England compound team have £230,000 funding over the next 3 years (correct me if i'm wrong) and N.Ireland as a team, whole team that is, have..... wait for it..... a paltry £2000. Yes 2k. What a joke.
