Recently one of our club juniors was unfortunate to have her brother dry fire her bow. One of the guys in the club put it back together with his portable bow press. At a competition she complained of a strange noise. Wendy took her bow home and we checked it to find that at full draw the string was nearly slipping off the bottom cam stop as the limbs had twisted and the cams were out of alignment.

She took it to a shop and Simon swapped the limbs and managed to get it back into a shootable condition for her.

The lesson from this I suppose is that if you have a dry fire get it checked out by your dealer rather than just assuming everything will be OK if you put the strings and cables back on.

I was concerned until I learnt that theirs did it as well, but then thought that was probably a logical explanation for it.

Anyone else experience this? I've checked the bow over but can't find anything loose that might cause the noise.
Something like this is quite common with Hoyt compounds, it's usually the plastic bobbins that the cable anchors to on the axel either side of the limb rubbing against the limb, it doesn't usually cause any harm but can be cured by getting some sort of lube between the bobbin and the limb, be careful to use something that will not attack the limbs.

Cheers, Jim.

The young compound archer stood behind me noticed that a bolt had come out of the limb mounting. After a brief look on the ground he declared "Oh, well. Its not the kind of thing you check regularly is it?"!!
It was explained that it was exactly the kind of thing you check regularly and the bow may well not survive another shot. At which point he returned to the shooting line!! It wasn't until a judge instructed him to stop shooting (at the request of those of us shooting nearby) that he did so.
I suppose in the past these things would just go down as natural selection!
Any chance that we might have a button added for the AIUK Darwin Awards? This would be in addition to the Fonz
