I know of clubs which (wrongly) assume that because all juniors are covered, and no additional money changes hands, they dont have to do the paper work and only issue cards when specifically asked for them.
This cuts down on the paper work for the administrators but puts the juniors in an impossible position.

Temporary cards must be issued for every member.

All they have to do each year is to print out a sticky label and stick it in the post!!!
Thats all you really ask from them ( Oh I forgot the magazine,so do they it seems)and they cannot even get that simple task right.
At least with the RAC you get your membership card BEFORE its due for renewal.
Maybe we should let them run GNAS !!

Once members have a full membership number, that is what happens now, the labels are sent to the clubs before the renewal date. This was only changed in the fairly recent past, prior to that, even the renewal labels took forever.
Part of the problem is the route the membership details take to get from the archer to GNAS.
The club fills out a multipart form and sends it with a cheque to the county. The county keep one part, write out a cheque for the original amount less the county fees and sends it to the region who carry out exactly the same process and send it on to GNAS. This in itself adds weeks to the process. This is supposed to reduce the number of errors on the forms when they get to GNAS as they have been checked 3 times. You will also notice that the form doesn't have address details, so those have to be sent by the club directly to GNAS so that the archers can get Archery UK.
I believe this will all have to be changed soon, as the current paperwork doesn't allow for analysis of ethnic origin or any disability information as required by the equity legislation.
This should have all been done by the new membership system which has now been scrapped because it wasn't up to the required specification.

Hi Solitary Woman, I do the memberships for my club, Mayflower, and it's quite an easy process to #### up, to be honest. You have to fill in the form longhand, and it would be ever so easy to miss off a name I imagine.

If your son has never had any kind of temporary card, I would check with your membership secretary that they did send off a Gnas membership application form for him, (in fact I'm having panicky feelings now in case I've forgotten someone!) and then ask them for a phone number for your Regional Secretary. (That's the person who issues the temporary cards, and then sends the form off to Gnas who send out a permanent one). This is the person who should be able to sort it quickest!

HTH
Rachel

Why is it different in different places - our membership secretary issues the cards and temporary sticker immediately.

The way the system is supposed to work is that the Club Secretary (or Membership Secretary etc) are supposed to issue Temporary number to new members upon receipt of club fees & GNAS fees etc.

It is not the County Secretary's job to do this, all they are supposed to do is make sure that all Club Secretary's have sufficient stocks of Temporary numbers and cards to issue....

If your County does not do it this way then they is doin' it wrong!!!

The problem is that GNAS send the cards to the county, not to the club. It is then up to the county whether they issue individual cards, or issue a block of cards to each club to then handle themselves. Certainly my county does the latter.
