Squash Ladder ish

Hi
Do any clubs run a 'squash ladder' style mini competition.

I had a thought along the lines of:-

£2 entry gets you on the ladder.
The pot would be the prize, split into different catagories.

you can compete against ANYONE up to 3 places above you. At ANY distance on ANY target face with ANY scoring.

The round is made up of 12 arrows, head to head style. with 3 sighters.

the challenger (lower placed archer) decides the format BUT CANNOT shoot outside the range of the person being challenged UNLESS the challenged agrees. (i.e. ladies shooting 90m/100yds)

This means you could get a junior recurve competing against a gent compound at a distance that the compound really struggles at!!!

I think this could be good in several ways.

1) you get to know people who you may not otherwise shoot with
2) It will help practise competitions within a known environment
3) It could be a really good laugh.!!!! Especially if you shoot things like 40cm face at 90m or 60cm face at 30m with the white being 10 points and gold being 1!! Or even big game faces at target distances!

just a thought!

I really like that idea. I like the idea of scoring changing around. I'm still not sure how a junior recurve would be competitive against a gents compound - have you got any examples when this has worked (ie the junior won)

No, I just thought this up after reading a few threads where the fun seems to be going out of archery.

Although...... as a junior I used to be able to take apart 95% of the club I was in!!!!!

Also with only 12 arrows you can get very lucky!!!!

We run one at Oxford Uni CofA during the indoor season, although entry is free. Proving quite popular. See the website for more info.

Burnham do an indoor ladder league - bit vague on the format as I wasn't really involved during the last indoor season. Cornish george will know more about how it works.

Basically there are 4 recurve divisions, 2 compound, 1 longbow and one for beginners, about six archers in each division, shooting head to head rounds, five ends of six arrows at 20yds, our indoor range.
Highest score gets 1 point, even score1/2 point each,so you might win 5-0, or draw2 1/2 to 2 1/2, or any permutation in between, these are recorded on a chart on the range door, at the end of each month the highest scorer in each division goes up one division, and gets a small trophy( for one month) and the lowest goes down one.
The archers sort out the comp on their own depending on who is in when they are, there's often a bit of a scramble towards the end of the month especially if someone has been away!

Wicken have a ladder system for the indoor season although it wasn't made much use of last year.

You can challenge up to 2 people above you of those that are present, challenger wins he swaps places with the looser. Challenger looses then its down to the bottom rung and start again. Jnr v Jnr and Snr v Snr on score of whatever they want to shoot including darts face. Jnr v Snrs based on handicap.

Andrew Watts devised the competition for us and even made the ladder. Need to get it restarted again this winter.

We did a Vegas Ladder last indoor season. 30 arrows at a 40cm face with the recurve 10 for all archers. I think this indoor season we'll do something with a 12 arrow head-to-head match with compound 10s and recurve 10s to help even things out between the different styles.
