I heard your limbs let go, when I was at full draw! It scared the life out of me, and thought a longbow had snapped! I was on target 29 (the guy whose Welsh Dragon wraps you took an interest in) and actually thought you'd gone across to the Merlin shop and hastily bought a new set to carry on with.

Great that someone was able to help out though - what actually happened? I heard that they were a pair of Borders that snapped?

We have been though a rough time recently, and we would like to thank all our supportive customers but especially those who are having to go though these rough times with us in suffering with these issues. We have done our best with every case, and hopefully managed to meet their expectations as best we could on the day.
We have had some contamination of one of the elements that go into our recurve products, which has lead to about 20% of them failing in the way mentioned here.
i can say that it is not limited to the Hex5 limb.
The contamination has been identified and sorted, and in all the investigations into the problem, we have had the chance to rework the CXC laminate. This has also allowed us to increase the tolerance in all our limbs to the stresses of life as a recurve limb, as a measure of security.
The testing and distruction testing has proven to yield a further increase in torsional stability by about 12% along with a larger safety margin of about 10%. From our testing there is no increase in limb mass, Therefor performance should be the same as the old CXC laminate, just with an improvement in Torsional stiffness.
We have some Video on Youtube of how far we do push limbs.
YouTube - Black Douglas Ultra 60" HexV Testing

In short, we have this problem identified and a solution in place.

Again we cannot thank those who have received a pair of limbs that have caused issues enough for their understanding and we are commited to making the best performance limb we can and we will continue to do our best by not leaving a customer without a solution if it is within our power to do so
For those still waiting on your limbs, please be patient as the level of service we are trying to offer those in trouble right now is what is partly causing the delays. In that we are doing our best to honour our comitments to those people who are needing support and have trusted us in the first place.

Thanks

Sid

I assume that it didn't break in the end. What amazed me was the string didn't even slip off and the curves held out.
Nice bow Sid..... ....

although at the moment i shoot winex.

i have had alot of good scores with border limbs.

i know the limbs are slightly dearer than most. but i would personally like to thank sid and border for their customer service. money for any of us doesn't come cheap and this extra cost to border has to be found.

main issue 16 week waiting list which has just gone up .....

it just goes to show though it isn't draw length related .
AL bordering 33" draw
Nat bordering 25" draw
2 in same house though,,,,2 in same club bad enough.

border customer service,thanks again

pete

We have always tried to say that limbs are complex creatures to make.
This is our first hickup in our history as managers/owners of a long standing history of bow making at Border Archery.
We have pioneered some fun materials into the market including S2 glass for the last 6 years, and have been using biased/double angled carbon the last 11years. All these are little tricks we did to make our bows a little different.
We, to the best of our knowledge have used the only non-foam synthetic core material and have used it. Applied it with the same R&D and good understanding of limbs and a modern bows needs. This didnt change with the Hex5 or the CXC laminate.
We pushed the idea of stability in limbs in our little way as we feel we have helped poineer this idea as a good thing for archers all over the world (pre Hoyt FX days).
We have found some new means of gaining some stability is to be found in the use of bow geometry, which we and the archers we have spoken to have been pleased with.
We have said all along that we will back any of our customers to our upmost ability, and if our ability to produce a truely innovative product is testiment to our ability to achive a task, then we also have the ability to test a product before we launch it and we are most able to back up these any of these issues and not leave a customer unsupported.
We have tried our best in the past, why would this week be any different to next week.

The issue has come from staff turnover, the experience not being there in the levels years gone by, to spot the contaimination quicker. We have some very good guys in at the moment and we have eliminated the contamination. And the guys are building experience fast. We are woking on the delays and are working towards an average of 12 weeks wait, with sight of getting that down to 8 weeks.

Hope this helps explain where we are and what we are aiming to do.

Sid

Sorry Wrexham Exile.
Just realised the threadjacking that has gone on.

on the original note, We love archery up here, mainly due to the sportsman like help available to anyone that holds a bow in their hand. You had that help first hand. Thats what makes it for us.
