Passing through King's Cross station on Thursday my eye was caught by a picture of a target. Programmed as we are to the famous colours I did a double take and peered down for a better look.

Unfortunately the target was part of a logo on a young ladies jumper who was looking back at me with a terrified "OMG Axe Murderer" look on her face.

Sensing her discomfort I obviously wanted to reassure her of our (unknown to her) affinity so I winked at her and walked on round the corner (just by the half buried trolley at Platform 9 3/4 if you know the area).

It then dawned on me that far from making things better I had probably just traumatised her for life so I turned and went back to offer a feeble "I was just attracted by your logo cos I also do archery".

So ...... having gone away ... the Axe murder comes back for another go!!!!

Poor poor girl, if you read this I hope you realised I am just a friendly, northern, archer and not an axe murderer. You did give me a little smile as I walked away for the second time but that may well have been an involuntary twitch as you slid into fear induced paralysis.

We really need a Star Trek type secret hand signal to use in such situations.

Any suggestions!!!
Maybe something a little more subtle like wearing a bow stringer for a belt may be adopted!

Don't suppose the old fashioned two finger gesture we used against the French would be good enough. It could be a P.C. issue or even Health and safety!!??

Health and Safety? As in liable to cause spillage of blood which is a slipping hazard?

Gods, they've finally got to me.

Err .......... suggestions of full draw as secret signal??

Remember this was at Kings Cross in London. What about if I was picked up by security thinking I was threatening passengers using the latest Stealth Bow??

"Actually officer I was tring to explain to a young lady why I had stared at her jumper"!!!

By the way (by way of reinforcing my pure innocence) the logo said BoH which I now presume is Bowmen of Harrow.

Perhaps the most outrageous suggestion of all, given we are talking about London, would simply be to approach the young lady and say "Excuse me, I couldn't help noticing the logo. Are you an archer?". But Londoners don't do polite conversation with strangers.

You could always just admit to having a swatch at her chest and stop trying to justify it
