I wasn't there on the day, but if an archer has been injured due to the weather conditions, surely there is no further debate!

I am usually about the last person on the field to say a shoot should be called off (I was the only person to vote to continue at Exmouth last year), however there have been a couple occasions this year that I have agreed with the decision to stop shooting.

Personally my opinion is that steady strong winds are not a reason to stop shooting, but strong gusts of winds are. The archer can anticipate and account for fairly consistant strong winds. But strong gusts of winds are unpredictable and will cause issues.

Sounds like I've been spotted pHz! One thing I can say is that nobody was remotely on for an MB at this shoot. I estimate I personally would have been down about 150 to 200 on my average at the end of the York if we'd carried on. I would certainly describe the wind as "strong and gusty". If I was at a shoot where MB scores were in the offing and they stopped it I would certainly have been most dischuffed too! Can't imagine why such a thing would happen.

Longbow archers, I promise as a compounder to respect your carefully made wooden arrows when it comes to arrow pulling time. As a compounder shooting carbon-aluminiums I do know where you're coming from. On too many occasions I've seen people madly yanking my arrows, grimace on face, trying to get them out the boss (I admit they can be hard to remove) and putting quite a bend on in the process - despite my repeated pleas to wait so we can do it with two people pulling which is much easier/safer and kinder to the arrows. An issue for another thread perhaps.
