| blind archery we had a come and try at the galloway country fair as we do every year for threave bowmen and i had a kid come and want a shot and he must of been about 7 years old but his dad asked if he could shoot as he was registered blind and i wondered wot every1 else would do 2 let him have a shot 4 the first time, as i just pulled the bow back 4 him and he just held my hands and he told m e2 let go. his dad was ok wi that. but the kid loved it as he kept bursting balloons left right and centre. so has any1 ever had 2 coach a blind arc her before. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apart from the use of numbers instead of words..... Sounds like you did a great job in the situation, it's not easy sometimes dealing with the range of abilities you can get at have-a-go's and you did exactly the right thing. As LMP has said, the guys above have coached VI archers, and it's a very rewarding experience. Kae. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Sue Habgood from the BBS does a workshop for coaches to learn how to teach/coach VI archers. She came up to Lincolnshire earlier on this year and did a full day workshop for us that was fantastic. Started with visual impairment awareness (find out what its like to be partially sighted), then a presentation on VI archery, the newest developments in "sighting" technology and teaching/coaching VIs. We were lucky to get some willing volunteers from our local blind society. See article on lincsarchery.org "news" page PM me if you want Sue's email address.

| the VI archer i coached was changing from recurve to compound as there is no divide between the two .when your VI. that was when i bought my compound thought it would be easier to coach if i could shoot a compound, relatively easy shooting compound...... harder coaching VI though. still following year he won belguim indoor / outdoor/ we went to italy he won that too. in fact he should have won but came second at shhoot off for korea. last sept a certain retailer he used to deal with hadn't put fletchings on his new arrows properly and we had to change from XX75's to Fatboys, not good when ur VI ankle support is a good start with VI's be cause they sway back and forth |

My dad is VI by the way! Blind in one eye, 5% vision remaining in the other, but very cloudy & indistinct. Doesn't hold him back from anything though, never has.
