"Pedestrian traffic and play as well as vehicles cause compaction and the faster the travel the more the compaction, football boots with stops apply about 10 kg/cm2, street shoes and running shoes about 0.4 ( about 1.2 at heel strike), however when running this can increase to around 15 kg/cm2."

I agree Dave, drainage does cause problems when the weather turns nasty.

Same for everyone around the UK. When it's wet or damp repeated walking over the same track of land will usually bring moisture to the surface, unless your on very sandy ground.

I seem to remember the mud at Harrogate for one of the clouts earlier this year and that is a very sandy soil. The particles got everywhere. That was just a lot of people standing in one place for the day with saturated ground.

I shoot on a prep school sports field. The groundsman there keeps the field in excellent condition throughout the spring/summer.The biggest damage that archery does is when an arrow "stitches the grass".Because the grass is cut very short,an arrow leaves a nasty scar, but treading the affected area down with a flat shoe normally repairs it easily.
