Leather suppliers

Hi folks

Can anyone recommend somewhere i can buy leather from for making my own tab faces? Or even which type of leather is best suited from somewhere like Tandy Leather Factory UK as there seems to be a lot of options there. I've tried local sadlers etc with no joy so mail order is looking like my only option. Ideally I'd like some cordovan but havent had any joy locating any yet.

thanks

I was under the impression that Tandy no longer own the leather factory in Northampton, but the new owners "The Identity Store" are distributers of their leathers and accessories.
It may help if you tell me what you want it for (different sorts of leather for different purposes) maybe I can advise.
I have lots of leather in my garage doing not a lot, if any of that is of use, you would be welcome to some.

Give me some input and maybe I can help.

Thanks for the offer. Its for making a custom size face for my cavalier tab. The premade faces you can buy in the shops are either too short for my fingers, or the larger faces dont have the holes precut in the right places for the size of plate I use.

Its for one of these Quicks Archery and 2mm thick cordovan is what they use to make them.

Cheers

Mark

I use a home made tab, so some of the leathers I have may be suitable. PM me your address and I'll put some in the post.

On the subject of tabs, I've always used the Calf Hair for mine and it was stocked by the dealers at one time, but not any longer. Therefore if anyone has any ideas of where it maybe available, I'd be most grateful....

I got the big piece of cordovan and it's just like the one that came with my Cavalier Elite tab. Will be making a new face soon as my current one is getting a bit floppy. I wouldn't think the shipping would be too bad to the U.K. for something that small.

Thanks for that link, you're right the shipping cost is really small in fact its cheaper than most UK postage rates! Think I'll probably order a piece as it seems a good price compared to the replacement faces.

I was told by a former GB coach that Horse Saddle leather is good for tab faces. You should be able to buy scrap peices for little money and make many a face from it.

Alternatively you could use the Oberon material supplied by our very own Old Bloke!

I'm using 2 layers of oberon at the moment as that was the most readily available material I could get thats easily cut to the size i need. It seems good stuff and I'll certainly be using it as a backing face atleast, just want to also try a good fitting leather face so I can compare the two and go with whichever i prefer.
