| I have no idea on the scores but modern technology would be expected to improve scores since it removes lots of the smaller variables that would otherwise lead to lower accuracy. But that said, a truly skilled archer would be able to shoot decent scores with really old equipment if they have a good technique. So I'd say that modern technology helps a lot, but isn't necessarily what makes someone good.

| Yeah I think technology has helped somewhat but I wonder if it is possible to quantify it?? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I might be talking out of my sitting equipment, but I seem to have read that scores from year's ago are not very far from modern day scores despite of carbon this that and the other.

| Well, checking the scores from the '72 Games the top score was a 1268 (followed on the second day with a 1260) in the Gents though most of the top archers were in the low-mid 1200's. The women topped out at a 1226 with most in the high 1100's/low 1200's. In Montreal ('76) there were two +1270 scores for the women (1278 - Valentina Kovpan, 1282 - Luann Ryon). In the Gents Darrell Pace put in a 1307, though most of the top scores were in the mid-high 1200's. So yes, score now-a-days are higher, but when you watch the youtube video Archery - A Return to the olympics - Archive 1970 you can see that a lot of archers were still using one piece bows, though not as many as were being used in the '61 wrold champs in Oslo.

| The number of fully funded archers in 1972 would have been much lower than today. From knowing a number of American pro shooters in the 70's, shooting full time will also be an element in the increased the scores being shown today, not simply the "carbon this & carbon that"
